cpu dependent

Post by Cynips »

At 1280x1024, High, 2xAA and Advanced setting at highest I get 53.24
while at 640x480, Low, No AA and Advanced settings at lowest I get 66.64,
so yes, it's relatively CPU dependent.

How is everyone doing the timedemo?

At first I was doing simply:

Code: Select all

timedemo demoname
This doesn't work however. I got pretty much 43-45 fps no matter how low or high I set my config.

Apparenyly you have to do:

playnettimedemo demoname

Can anyone comment on this more?

MidnightQ4:

I ran the D|S-Syn-'s nettimedemo as follows:
  • I renamed the file to ggl.netdemo
I put the file in my demos folder under q4base
    I started Q4.
    Brought the console down.
    typed playNetTimeDemo ggl.netdemo
Then waited to see the FPS's in the console.
ggl=34.77 fps
800x600 high quality

D|S-Syn- wrote:Okay, I just made a quicky timedemo since there no demos included.

There are two types of demos, Demo and NetDemo. I have no clue what the difference is, however here is a quick timedemo I made

http://media.ggl.com/files/ggl-timedemo.zip

Extract that file, and put it in your "C:\Program Files\id Software\Quake 4\q4base\demos" directory. If you do not have that demos directory, create it and put this file there.

Next load up q4 and type "playNetTimeDemo ggl-timedemo.netdemo"

It's slow and will take a bit but when it's done you can check the console for the FPS #'s.

I got 60.

AMD 3200XP w/ 6800GT + 768MB RAM

The other 'Demo' type creates huge demo files and their timedemo actually pops up a box at the end giving you the info. I wonder if this NetDemo stuff is some sort of legacy timedemo that id software put in until people have no problems downloading a 90MB timedemo. Or a really huge Demo.

Yeah...this thread makes it quite apparent that it is, very much so, CPU based.

what do u mean? im just looking through everyones scores, and people with not so great systems getting really good fps while others while better comps get much worse FPS, its a bit frustrating/confusing
You'll always notice fluctuations in scores like this. It depends a lot on how well the system is maintained and how many apps and services are running in the background and taking up CPU resources.
