Anyone else having this problem?

Hey all!

Just trying to see if anyone else is experiencing this. When trying to join a server, my game will go to desktop, open up a window that looks like the dedicated server window (i can see it loading .pak files and other various things), then it will go back into the game (initializing menu/interface green loading screen), THEN join the server. Seems to be happening every time now. What gives?

Not like it's an actual "problem", but still, sort of annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Take out all 'custom' pk4 files from your q4base folder. Such as custom maps like blip tourney or phrantic. It does the same with me but removing pk4s that weren't there when installing the game seems to help.

Tried this, sadly didn't fix it.

I suspect a CFG setting somewhere that it doesn't like, or if not that then it's the odd behaviour where the game reloads itself when switching between single and multiplayer game. Something to do with that.

hmm ya I get this too, I think it may have something to do with the combination of files being different on the server vs client. like if the server has an extra map that the client doesn't have or vise versa. re the single player thing, I never play it and I still get this problem. :icon32:

I have this problem, too. Sometimes it seems the game loads itself three times - once when I start it, then twice more when I try to join a server. It's annoying, but I'm glad it's not just me. That makes it more likely to be something that will get fixed.

It's odd because, one time I removed pk4 maps but it didn't work, and then another time it did work. Then yesterday it was playing up again so I removed the custom maps again, ( which I had since put back), and it was fine. Yes it could be coincidence and random behaviour but I think it's something to do with pk4 files. I made a thread a few days ago at ESR about this, and the concensus seems to be pk4 as the culprit.

mine does that too. its loading a mod, even though there is none
i have differnet mod dirs in my q4 root now, like DM, CTF and Arena. its fucking annoying
