Ok... I just got q4 and fear, a new mobo, gfx card, ram and cpu. It is complicated. I have never built a computer before. The problem I am having is that my dvd-rom drive is not being recognized. I am assuming this is because I replaced my mobo. I need for it to be recognized so that I can install the drivers for everything else and eventually quake4. Can you guys help me? I would have put this in the tech section but I know it will get way more hits here and I'd like to be fragging by the end of the night. Here's what my specs looks like:
asus p5ld2 lga 775
pentium d 3.2
1012 mb corsair ddr2
nvidia 6600
then my dvd rom drive... I don't even know what brand it is but i've got a model number. xj-hd166s
Please guys, I wanna be part of the in-crowd...
Please help me play q4. Hardware installs...

Assuming that you didn't disconnect the hard drive and dvd-rom from the cable AND didn't change any jumper settings on either of those devices, it could easily be a matter of:
a) The cable connection to the dvd-rom is slightly pulled out.
or
b) The power plug for the dvd-rom is slightly pulled out
or
c) Both of the above
Good luck.

Ok, I got it. It was all connected right, which seems to cover the bulk of your suggestions. I ended up having to install the mobo drivers before it recognized the drive. Sort of a catch 22. What I ended up doing was copying the files from the cd to a laptop and my external hard-drive then running them on my pc. Worked well, I suppose, although I am still having audio trouble. I got my first real taste of q4 today. I have to say, it seems very fun. I ran around the edge and had a little bit of single player action before my psu blew out entirely. It was running absolutely perfect before that. The mp does feel alot like q3. The stairs thing is horrendously annoying though. I don't think anyone at id or raven even knows how to strafe jump. I like the weapons and the movement. I would like to get some dm's in soon when I get my new psu and dsl working. I hope you guys are up for a schoolin'.
