The problem why I couldn't see the map files listed was because my upload was corrupted, stopped at 50% or so. Anyway it "works" now, but buy that I mean it will run for anyone who has the map already. As with everyone else I cannot find anyway to allow downloads on the server. Also if I set si_pure 0 then I get a "data is out of synch with the server" error when connecting. For now I just put a link to this thread in my server name. Hopefully people will find the file.

I used this link:

tinyurl.com/8b2pr

which links back to this thread. We really need a single place that everyone can go to get all the maps at once, sorta like a map pack that gets updated weekly or something.

oh, my server is in LA if anyone on the west coast wants to play with the fast fps maps:

63.215.74.143

Have fun!

Ok so why is this mappack needed anyway? Can't you disable r_lightdetail etc. commands via server config so that clients can use custom variables? No?

dzjepp, I believe that the problem was that the mappers had just dumped in all their lights with the default detail level (i.e. all level 10 or something). So you'd end up turning off all the lights, or none of them without any fine control over the lighting. What dr4ch has done is to give every light a meaningful detail level, e.g. level 1 for fluff trim lights that really add nothing but a little atmosphere, and 9 for ambient lights that basically light a whole area. So now you can turn off the lights with some control; e.g. turn off all the detail lights, and if that doesn't help turn off all the wall lights, etc.

R_lightdetail commands work online, they are not cheat protected. I think you are mistaken with the command r_singlelight which is cheat protected.

Ive got this same setup, but im running a Chaintech 6600gt (which ive had to UNDERCLOCK by about 20% because of stability issues on ALL games not just quake) and I get 60 frames most of the time. Of course if Im in a DM and there are several ppl on the screen it may drop to mid 40s or so.... But i can deal with that.

I dont play CTF to much, but i did notice a pretty big drop when i played on relitivity. But it was only for a moment in the center of the map. No big deal.

I play at 1024x768, high quality, everything on but shadows. I have not used the console to mess with graphics at all.

The fps moves around a little on DM, but 1v1 on small maps like fraggin yard are rock solid at 60.

My card recently stopped working all together, so i ordered a 7800. Im pretty sure i should see 60 fps nearly all the time now.

Newegg has the chaintech 6600gt for 130 bucks now.

Anyway, ive seen a lot of comments during gameplay like "You got to have a $500 card to play this game" But its just not really true.

But if you have a 9800 or lower you just arent going to get the FPS you want.

Well I just wanted to let ppl know that a "cheap" card may get your FPS up to an acceptable level. Id much rather see more ppl on the servers, that is better for all of us.

"si_map "mapname"
si_pure 0
spawnserver "

I think it has to be si_map mp/"mapname"
