Video quality keeps resetting

Post by Victrix »

I'm not sure what's causing this (new driver issue maybe?) but on my 6800, the texture quality keeps resetting to medium. Is there an easy fix for this?

In the console, type: /seta r_texturemode GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR and do a vid_restart. Make sure your q3config.cfg isn't read-only. You'll probably have to do this for all mods unless you don't mind deleting their configs.

do the same for your desired r_picmip value

not if visual clarity is the objective.

Picmip >0 feels so 'unfamiliar' to me that i don't play well with it. Lack of visual detail can also make things unclear (lack of depth perception).

playing around with the texturemode can compensate for the loss of texture with high picmips.

Some configurations end up rendering the textures in a sort of tron like fashion - with crosshatches along the floors or something. This works even in high picmips.

The advantage of high picmip is increasing the contrast between foreground (enemy) and background (walls, floors, etc). This is enhanced when you choose good lighting conditions, and colour your enemy appropriately.

Ah how I miss the fugly mode when I am playing q4. You could tweak Q3 so nicely.

All in good time I am sure. :tear:
