Since I don't feel like shelling out a ton of cash for a copy of Photoshop is there an open source app someone can recommend thats of similar quality and isn't awkward to use?

The GIMP has most of the features PS sports and it isn't too awkward to use.

It is worth mentioning, however, that it's not photoshop. Easy to use, but you'll still have to relearn it.

Lot of people I set up with it state 'man this is fucking hard to use' only because they've got used to their uni photoshop install.

Torm, if you're used to PS menus, then Gimpshop might be exactly what you're looking for. me likey.
