X-Battle Interview

On inquake.de Symbi0nt took the time to interview the X-Battle mod team.
^Champi^ and his team are talking about the X-Battle Mod (XBM), the relation to the mod Q4Max and some other things about the recent past.
The Interview is now available in german and in english as well.

Interesting read, but it's what i expected. The X-Battle team will continue developing their mod whatever happens. :)

Haven't read it, but X-battle in q3 was a mod that was unlagged.

xbattle in q3 was everthing, unlagged was just a option which was voteable

you can vote also the advanced osp netcode ;)

OSP netcode isn't advanced, it just had the fix for the 50 ms built-in lag (when sv_fps = 20). Apart from that it's just VQ3.

XBM Team : Not at the moment. I think we first have to focus on simple and secure netcode optimisations. The idea of the unlagged mod is something completely different and needs a lot of effort. I would not say that Q3 XBM was mainly an unlagged mod. It was played in that way because the community wanted it. Furthermore, Q3 XBM includes the advanced netcode (the same as OSP), but unfortunately many players forget that you have to vote for it and think that XBM is a bad mod as the netcode is rubbish.
..but the most interesting part of the interview is about Q4MAX :P
inquake.de : Let's talk about the accusations from the Q4Max team. On their website they say that a attempt to unite the teams failed. What do you say about that? Who approached whom, in which points did you agree, in which not? Why did the attempt fail?

XBM Team : We do not really like to talk about that, but obviously there is the strong need to clarify certain things, so we will briefly tell you what happened. First of all, zr0 got into contact with us. We too wanted to communicate with them, agreed on everything and noted a lot of things down. What we could not accept was the fact that zr0 wanted to coordinate the project. He is neither able to code, nor to script or to handle a 3D editor. However, he wanted to play a major role in this project and insisted on being in charge. Standing around and watching the others work can be done by our pets as well, we do not have to create a new post for that. So after our talks both parties wanted to sleep over it . The next day the channel was empty and after a few days their press release could be read on their website.

Now that zr0 is not member of the team any more, we got into contact with Q4Max again and started to talk about the project again. We will see what happens. It would be very nice to have a team with a mod, as long as everybody agrees. If we are not able to work together soon, we can at least say that we tried and that we are still interested in it.
