The weapon balance is fine. The lg and the shotgun have different uses. close wide open spaces use the lg, lots of corners use the shotgun. Just because the shotgun isn't worthless like in q3 doesnt mean its unbalanced. The only unbalanced weapon is the RG, like in the rest of the quake games.

SG > LG all the time I think especially with truelight always on, unless your on lan perhaps but I havent had a chance to play it on a lan yet.

Besides, how many close wide open spaces are there? If your close its going to be tight and the shotty will own you with 2 semi good shots unless your tanked up. Only time will tell I guess...
