Doh!

"Here’s the deal, the QUAKE 4 demo that is on a few sites is an untested version of the demo that was inadvertently on id’s FTP. The FTP has since been updated, but not before this incomplete version got out. The multiplayer portion of the demo doesn't work online at the moment. This version is not tested and not final, so if you can let folks know that they should wait for the final version that we’re expecting early next week it would help."

Quake 4 is a great game... I think this will get a lot of people to take notice.

I'm almost tempted to try this demo out... it could have the performance improvements that id talked about.

That's like putting the horse before the cart. Why would you come out with a demo after the game has been realeased?

What makes sense to me is that the Demo should come out a month before the game's arrival on store shelves.

The Quake 4 demo released last night was apparently issued prematurely, and the following note describes the situation and plans for a follow-up:

Could that, omg please, mean that changes have been made to either the lighting (Dr4ch fps tweaks), sound system, or even more interesting weapon balance and movement?!

at least.

i hadn't even tried to play the demo online yet.
