Campers
Fair enough, but I think there is only 100 points of armour on the map total. 50 in the YA which the guy in control of the rail area should have, and 10 shards, 3 of which are at the RG with 1 green health, so really the guy who has RG should be able to account for 65 of a total 100 armour, and the weapon that can control the map.

Heh, this thread takes me back.
I remember an old Q3 TDM server that was 24/7 vanilla DM12: you would get an entire team camping in the BFG room while the other team fought like mad to take it over. The process would then begin again. It was fun at the time but it did get rather stupid when you had seven players in there aiming at the teleporter and water tunnel.
Mind you, if you managed to get a few grenades in there...

I've been thinking about opening a thread about this. I played a few tourneys lately and i was really baffled about the style of my opponent's on maps like Lost Fleet and Fragging Yard. "Is this gonna be how Q4 is played??"
:icon28:
- is what i thought.
CS style camping, just waiting there on a spot with a long LOS until a green spot comes by to rail (xbattle). Spamming rockets/nades/HB for the rest of the time.
Pretty disappointing to see this lame mentality that isn't hardcore at all which a Quake game SHOULD be.
I'm not giving up on Q4 though; awaiting maps and mods and with good gameplay changes like cpm and freeze tag.

it's the maps fault. You should try the new tmp maps http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=942052
they add some armour and move around some weapons so you can't just camp a spot

Exactly. If you find your self losing to campers, then either fight a way to beat them or accept the fact that you lost. In games or any games in general I think of them as a win or lose situation. Sure it's mighty easy to blame it on "cheap weapons" or "cheap playing styles", but you can't get around the fact that you lost. Not everyone has to adhere to a certain style of play. It's what keeps the repetitive nature of FPS games interesting.clkou wrote:When it comes down to it, you can't really blame someone for doing anything that's legal in the game. If someone wants to camp, they can camp regardless of what you think about it. The same goes for using weapons like the BFG. Sorry if you don't like how someone plays, but if they aren't cheating, they're allowed to employ any strategy they see fit and it’s your job to counter act that strategy.
In a nutshell: Lose, learn, adapt, win.
It's interesting as long as it suits your style and your expectations of the game. The only way to beat a camper/spammer that has the same level of skill as you do, is to use the same strategy (just watch that fat vs chao t4 demo). Basically meaning you're screwed if you're not a camper/spammer by nature because you can't enjoy the game.m4 wrote:Exactly. That's why i prefer to play a mod that adapt the gameplay to something that encourages a style of playing that's actually FUN for me (not this passive-agressive crap). One can find challenges in anything, but for me it won't be beating out-camping/spamming others in VQ4. I'll be waiting for mods like CPM.

ya it's the map's problem. and apparently you were playing someone really good if you were getting railed after every respawn. on a good map you would be able to go somewhere and get some armor and rockets so you could survive a hit or two while you rush his ass with spam, but on that map it is gay cause there is nowhere to get anything after respawning.DooMer wrote:Yep, the fragging yard 1v1 is all about standing on the rail. Pretty wank shit.
