Sound card not recognized by XP but works
picked up a sb live
removed all old drivers with driver cleaner pro
installed..reinstalled...repeat repeat repeat...
but Q4 and Fear still don't recognize eax or the card for that matter(ie. greyed out)
any ideas to force xp into submission...

For Q4 you need openal for sound to work: http://www.openal.org/
Try installing the drivers manually, not via the .exe
Use Winrar to extract the contents of the .exe into a folder. Then go into device manager and go to properties of the sound card, and do 'update driver' and point to the folder you extracted the files too.
EDIT: But clean the system once again of the sound drivers before doing this. By installing manually you won't get the crappy stuff like the extra sound blaster/creative apps installed.

Is the card oem or not? (Dell etc. ship those kinds). They sometimes modify the setup file so it recognizes their card, but it usually breaks access to official cards, like one manufactured by creative.
But I'm guessing you do have a built-by creative model... so, if all else fails, a format c: might cure what ails ya.
