Real quick yes or no question about FPS.

Hello all!

OK, I range between 18 and 36 FPS durring multiplayer in Q4 AND D3. Usually holding at around 23 FPS.

Is that a decent frame rate and frame rate range?

Its playable but you should be tweaking until you can get at least a consistent 40, if not 60 fps.

heh i get around 40 on d3 at high on my 950

so you must have one crap system

No I have a good system. And 40FPS on High on a 950?

It may have cost me a fortune and taken me forever to save up for it, but no I dont have ANY problems with any games on this one, but this one is my beloved LAN machine.

When it is getting way outdated then I'll start useing it as my every day use machine and start saving up for another new system again.

Also lets think before we speak here. No I really didn't know the answer or I would not have asked and I certainly would not have posted having less than average frame rates on a vid card that is working perfectly well.

In short because I have been through this info enough my relevant specs on this machine are:

AMD 3000Mhz
1.5GB PC3200 DDR
120GB 7200RPM
NVidia FX5700 LE 256MB DDR

Settings on High 1024x768 Shadows on, Triliniar and all that stuff.

The vid card would be why I am not getting the best frame rates.
I already know that much.
I just wanted to know if my vid card was even giving me proper
"average" FPS in these games.

Obviosly the answer is no as misantropia was very observant to notice that Doombrain DID give the answer I was looking for.

This is your problem, yes. The 5700 is pretty outdated by now. On top of that, the LE is the lightweight (budget) version and quite a bit slower than your regular 5700. Upgrade to a 6800 or better and you should be fine.

It seems like they just arent used any more. I figured it would come in handy for flashing BIOS and stuff like that, but I haven't seen a new system with a 3.5 installed in it being sold in a while.

Oh, well.

BTW, I went to BestBuy and got the 6800. It was 199.99 with a in store $30 instant rebate! 169.99 Awesome!

Consistant 72FPS with all settings set to high on 1024x768! It all looks awesome. Quite a bit smoother as well.

I gave one of my older systems to my daughter last year and it had
Windows XP SP1(Upgraded to SP2)
AMD Athalon XP 1800MHz
512MB DDR PC2700 RAM
60GB 7200RPM HDD (Master)

Not a bad system for an 11 year old to begin with.

Well after I bought the 6800 and installed it in my system I installed the NVidia GForce FX5700LE 256MB DDR card in her system while she was at school and when she got home and found out she was thrilled.
She is starting to like Q3A and the FX5700LE gives her between 250 and 375 FPS in Q3A consistantly.

So everything is cool now.

Thats a killer system for many adults let alone a 4/yo...lol. I hope you have him sitting on dad's lap every now and then letting him develope some quake skills...lol.

Our daughter that I was refering to her system above is 11 and she builds maps in GTKRadiant for her and our 6/yo daughter to play hide and go seek in on rainy days over the LAN. (gauntlets only)

The rules they made up are that you can't hit back if you are not it. If you get hit by the gauntlet your it. If you get humiliated you have to take out the trash...lol.

It makes a Dad proud...heh.
