Well in the broad sense, MS have the best drivers, with Logitech's being 'alright' but I personally would rather have the windows default drivers or fudge a logitech mouse with MS drivers. Razor I can't speak on but I've heard their drivers are so-so.

In hardware terms, I've gone with logitech repeatedly for all my mice. First a basic wheel mouse, then the logi gaming mouse (RIP old friend), then dual optical (fantastic but the finger grips have rotted now) and now the MX510, which is great.

Personally I'm on the look out for a flatter mouse profile like the gaming mouse because it was simply the best setup for gaming.

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

I have the mx518... great mouse. I've heard of some reports that the g7 corded laser (or is that g5?) isn't as nice as the 518. Haven't tried the new stuff so I can't really say if that's true or not.

I use a Logitech MX510, I don't think I have the mouse software installed, I need the keyboard software for the function keys to be what they should be, F1, F2 and what not, not New and Reply. Otherwise the Windows drivers are great for it, only problem I have is that it is no where near ambidextoris, oh well.

I'd get the 510. I have the 500 now and it's still good. The 518 or new G5 are more than I think a mouse is worth.

By the way, do not install the Mouseware drivers. I prefer to not be able to bind the small buttons on the top of the mouse over what they did to my sensitivity/mouse acceleration. I couldn't get used to it. I just use whatever drivers Win XP provides.

Such a subjective thing...

I go against the grain and got a 5 button Intellimouse Optical, for some reason I love symmetrical mice. Like Foo I like default drivers where possible and sensible, my reason being that I don't want to add software for it's own sake.

I do like the intelli opticals. Prefer the weight of them as well.

I think I need to put some money into a decent mouse surface too. ATM I'm relying on the veneer on my desk but I've worn it through in places (I seem to do this a lot).

I had an everglide, but it was absolutely shit. It ran brilliantly but only lasted me about 2 months before it was dull and flat in the centre.

Which I still have here now, I don't get along with mousepads at all so it's sitting in a bag :D

As far as I've read, if you don't install the Logitech drivers on the 510 it won't run at 800dpi. Just an FYI. On the 518s the dpi is part of the hardware and doesn't need the drivers to run at optimal speeds. Other than that issue my 510 has been an excellent mouse so far.

Well after going through some menus on the old start menu I found that I do have the MouseWare drivers installed. I use them to set the mouse speed, the acceleration and the scroll lines for the wheel, makes for a very good combination.

i use the setpoint (2.31 i think) w/518 and bump the mouse polling rate to 2 ms from 8 (125hz win default). the drivers will get rid of accel much more reliably imo than any reghack will w/default ms hid drivers.
