There's tons of great games for the DS. I haven't seen too many PSP games that really tickle my imagination, but I'm sure there's great games on it that I just haven't noticed because I don't know the titles.

I'm sure that whichever system you choose, the other system will always have games of which you think "I wish I could play that". I'd love to give Mercury and Lumines a spin on the PSP myself.

One or two games that interest me isn't really enough for me to buy a console. I think people have to look at it in a broader way than just one or two games.

If you're really enthousiastic about homebrew software and playing mp3 and videos on a handheld system, then that's a point scored for the PSP. If you don't care about that stuff too much but are more interested in exploring new gameplay mechanics (I might be known as a fanboy, but everyone that claims that the stuff Nintendo did with the stylus doesn't bring a completely unique experience probably never tried it in the first place) then the DS is probably more for you.

And like said before, if you buy a play-yan then you're still off cheaper than the PSP and you've got a video and mp3 playing DS.

Oh and I saw someone mention buying a wireless adapter or something for the DS? That's not true, you need to buy nothing to get online (internet) with it, except for a wireless access point (WiFi router for instance), but you need that for your PSP as well, so there's no difference in that.

i posted that and i didn't say you had to, only if you don't have a wireless router.

okay well you made it look like one could hold that against the DS, while it's a moot point.

I dunno what i said before TBH im a bit drunk now...

But the DS by far rocks for "gameplay". The PSP is "good" for graphics but by far to many devs think its a PS2 and its not, its more like a PSOne with filtering, so the games run slow as shit.

The DS at least knows what it is, and it runs games at the detail its supposed to. Im sorry to all you "NFS" fans, but Mario Kart is about the best damned racer on handhelds ATM, and prolly for a long time. That, and Res Evil and Mario and luigi 2, plus online, makes the system the most awesome handheld EVER.

Remember, this is me saying this. for "me" to put gameplay before graphics must mean something at least.

Honestly, yeah, the PSP has a nice screen, and lets you isten to MP3's and watch videos, but... Well.. Isn't it the games that matter?

Fucking excellent question Jackal. I have been wondering this. I have a few questions myself...

I will not be using mine entirely for games. I really want to be able to watch TV shows and things that I have downloaded to watch at work and in the car etc. Is the PSP better for this?

Also, I own a Sony Camera and quite like the idea of looking at the photographs on a PSP. Is it just a case of plugging in the memory stick from the camera and then being able to look at the pics?

Can you watch downloadable things on a DS?

Also I played GTA on the PSP the other day and saw an incredible amount of ghosting. In fact it was giving me a headache.

Honestly, a PSP is for you. It by far allows you to do such things. But remember, it takes a massive wallet to do so.You dont just have to buy the PSP, but the memory card as well. Remember that ,and you will do fine.

In the Uk, its £180 for a PSP and £75 at least fo a 1gig memory card. Thats a lot for such a limited device, when yo ucan buy things that do far more for less. So put that first ;)

If you want gameplay, get a DS. If you want video, music etc, get a proper video/mujsic player, or a ipod.

Thats because the PSP, like many LCD screens, is REALLY bad with black/dark colours.

This means that when you play a dark game (i.e. GTA, and many MANY others on the PSP), you get VERY bad ghosting.

The DS gets no ghosting. AT ALL. but its a much smaller screen. Remember that and pick the best for you.

psp screeni bigger and higherquality than the DS so movies look crisper, but as stated by tnf if its indirect sun light then it can be hard to see.

And yes you can just take the mem card (duo pro) from a cam andput it in the psp to view the pics. and if you look on ebay you can pick up a sandisk 1gig card for around £50 from hong kong, mine took about 3 days to deliver to theuk.

You can watch films and listen to music on the DS too. You just need to buy the adapter. You cant get this on either system without spending money.

It all boils down to fancy bells and whistles with a shite frame rate (PSP) or standard looking games with a great frame ate and by far the best online play yet (DS).

Hell, even EA (Yes, THAT EA) pulled The Sims 2 for PSP because the frame rate was awful, and are now downgrading the visuals so that it plays smoother.

to many devs think the PSP is a PS2. It not, its a PSOne with filtering. As soon as devs get over that, and make games that look like filtered PSOne games with good frame rates, i refuse to play the PSP again. I'm fed up of constant sloppy slow gameplay on my PSP. I just turn it off and move to Mario Kart. Its fucking amazing. Nuff said.
