Prince of Persia: Wanker Within

Post by Eraser »

My god what have they done to this game?
Sands of Time was awesome, unique, original, not too violent for a change and absolutely fantastic, but Warrior Within is just so extremely generic. It just lacks everything that made Sands of Time the great game that it was.

What fucked up executive-in-a-suit thought this piece of shit up? Streams of blood as a loading screen? Puh-lease. Enemies saying generic nonsense like "you have two choices, run or die". How corny is that?!

Ok, I must admit, I haven't even gotten past that one "You Bitch!" ( ) boss character lady (and she dresses like a slut too, the kind you find OD-ed and raped in the gutter of the red light district) but even this tiny bit of game feels so incredibly tacky and immature that I'm really wondering if I should simply cherish the memory of Sands of Time (or even replay that) instead of playing this bit of angsty nonsense.

Seems like a waste of money.

I was really disappointed by the cutscenes/acting too, but the gameplay is worth seeing your way through it. I still haven't beaten it yet, but I've been thoroughly enjoying it so far. I think some of the skills that are learned throughout the game are awesome too -- it's one of those games that makes you think "Man, why hasn't anybody done THAT before?"

That being said, I never played Sands of Time, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. :smirk:

i have hear TT is going to be beter, we cant do anything more then wait.

Also, what pissed me off about WW is that you just get tossed in with a Reletivly challenging boss right off of the get go, and i am willing to admit that it took me three try's to bead that Gal.

but the part that sucks is that once you beat her, its easy after that.

kinda weird?

Climbing the tower in TSOT was probably the best pure platforming experience I've ever had in a game.

TBH Eraser, i agree. I fucking LOVED SOT but try as i did, i jsut couldn't get into WW, it was just... Well, it just WASNT SOT. Sure its not supposed to be I know, but damn... I liked the original formula, and i loved the new style, but damn it just didn't feel right...

I'll get two thrones because its supposed to be back to true form. But TBH, its lost that "wow" factor i got from SOT. I nailed that first ame, couldn't put it down.

I loved SOT then proceeded to love WW as well. I don't understand why so many people bitch about it. All it did was take the good elements of the first game (ie: the puzzles) and improved from there by adding to the story and combat system.

and getting rid of any kind of protagonist personality, visual setting and the persian atmosphere by adding sum41esque music

the game screams 'generic'

I'll give you the music point, but the settings are still really well done. You can fault them for trying to progress the story.

Is it me, and it may be, but when i first started playing WW, i couldn't play it. Not because of the gameplay, but because of the FOV. For some reason, its set in like FOV 120 or something, the camera is all fisheye...

Anybody else see it?

I loved SOT on the PC and hated WW on the XBox. I'm hopeful for TT.

Two more gripes I have with this game.

First is that the audio mix seems odd. It's like a lot of audio channels simply aren't being played. I messed around with different audio settings but everything gives the same result.

Things like right at the beginning, when those beams crash through the hull of the ship, that sound is extremely loud (out of place loud) and the water pouring in makes no sound at all, which doesn't make sense.
Things that feel like they should make a sound are completely silent as well. It all results in a very detached gameplay experience. Is this a known issue?

Second grip is.... well... call me a noob or whatever, but who in gods name decided that it was "funny" to put a boss fight right at the start of the game. I just can't beat her. It's not even a funny fight or anything. I'm blocking 3 hour lasting combo moves from her and she dodges or counters pretty much every time I even attempt to strike her. It's no fun at all.

Another thing I dislike that just popped in my head is that right after cutscenes (even those rendered in-game) sometimes you are placed right in front of enemies which immediately strike out at you. The transition between cut-scene and gameplay is not very obvious when the cutscene is rendered in-game. This kind of flawed design should pop up during internal testing, no?

Was this game developed by the same team as Sands of Time or did they dig up some 3rd rate developers from some 3rd world country somewhere?

bleh, sands of time was crap. The controls were retarded (when you walk down, the camera angle changes and your walking a different direction) and the fighting was straight button mashing. Good graphics and visuals however - it just wasnt fun to play.

Now just hope that if/when you do beat her, the game doesn't crash before you get to the next save point. That's what happened to me and I never touched the game again. Took me forever to beat her, then when I did, the game locked up.

I'm sorry but you're talking about a CONSOLE game and sharing your experience with an 8-12 year old demographic.
What do you expext?

It's not to late to come back to the PC game experience before its gutted by the likes of defectors like you.

All will be forgiven.

ah yes. the game is also for console therefore all problems you have are because of this

you talk about 9-12 demographics, yet it seems you are the one that needs growing up. dont make me bust out that report again where it says most games are sold to peope between 25 and 40. tit

WTF are you talking about?
Just for your information, I'm playing this game on the PC, not on a console. And who-buys-what aside, Quake3World isn't exactly an 8-12 year old demographic :icon6:
