X-Fi Doesn't work with Q4
Well, after fighting with this new card all night I can't get it to work with quake 4. Looks like only the beta drivers for the Audigy 2/4 have the proper support for openal for q4 right now, and they don't have those availble for the X-Fi, imagine that. The latest X-Fi compatible drivers appear to be a few versions old and DO NOT WORK. Needless to say, taking the card back tomorrow.

Ya that's the driver I was using. When I load q4 and go to sound settings it says "your sound card does not support openal audio" And it puts it on default. Then when I play, I only hear some sounds, such as explosions of rockets , but I don't hear myself moving, jumping, or weapon firing sounds.
Well I suppose the problem could be the version of windows I'm running, which is media center 2005. But supposedly it is xp sp2 with a few extras so it doesn't make sense that it would mess it up.

Let me guess. You're running an nForce 4 chipset. Right?
Some nForce 4 mobos and Soundblaster X-Fi cards are incompatible.
Fortunately, you can flash your soundcard with a new firmware to fix the issue.

That's what you get for buying a Creative product!
I will not support that company with my cash.

I'm running an Asus P4C800 Delux with a 3.0 P4. Don't remember the chipset but it's not NF4
But ya the only real feature that I wanted to keep was the volume leveling, and it looks like that software can be installed (hacked) to work with my Audigy 2 anyway.
Thanks for the reply though I might try that firmware thing just for shits and giggles. And I agree their stuff is pretty flaky and thier software generally blows, but the latest stuff was looking a bit better.
