So, time to get a new video card.

I have a P4 3 gig proc, a gig of ram, a Geforce 3, and an Audigy 2. Im cheap and not going to upgrade the whole system for another year or so, thinking like Feb/March 2007, but the video needs to go.

What mid range card is going to do the trick? I have been leaning heavy toward a 6800, they are cheap and apparently unlockable to some extent or another for many people, I dont need to run Q4 at 120000x80000, and am just looking for solid framerates for a year and a half at whatever resolution it takes.

Is there an ATI that would give comparable performance for less or is the 6800 the way to go?

I'd go for the 6800 or 6800GT if you can, I know you can unlock the pipes on the 6800, but that isn't gaurunteed so it doesn't always work. Also I've pushed my 6800GT past Ultra specs just by letting CoolBits do its auto overclock.
