Quake 4 bots

Post by D'Artagnan »

Yes bots that work's pretty well, here is the link if you wanna try it;
http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=955260

http://quake4.filefront.com/file/Sabota8;52204

1.- to be able to play with the Q4max skin;
copy the [ pak002.pk4 ] from the folder q4max and paste it into the sabot folder and rename it as [ z-brightskins ].

2.- to be able to play with custom maps;
start the game, load [ SABot a8 ] and before starting the server, you have to create ass files, so type into console;
runass mp/[presstab] to choose the map and ENTER, that way it will create a ass file so the bot can run around the map.
Be sure to create a NON pure server, because some people add trouble in pure mod....anyway its just for practicing.

After the game as started, just type into console the following to load bots on youre map;

addbot bot_sabot
or just
addbot bot_[tab] to see the entire list of bots.

Qrealka, the maker of Spiterbot, is working for bots for Q4Max. Just a heads up; it's something that won't be spiter-quality for a while, but it's being worked on. :)
This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost

They still wouldn't be as good as spiter bots based on q3 anyways.

I bet arQon will work on them together with spite, so they could turn out to be even better than the CPMA bots (which were better than spiterbot). :)

Why do I remember that? The last time I messed with reapers must be 5 years now and yet I can remember something like the author's name from the readme like magic :tard:

I loved the reaper bot. That's how I got so good no one at LAN parties could touch me. This new Stupid Angry Bot is really good too! On the default skill level they NEVER miss. I like that you can turn their skill level down. Turn it up as you get better, that'll definitely improve your skills.

Haven't tried it yet, but i guess the name suggest's it's just another bot with aim skill only, or is it smart in any way (dodging moves, strafejumps, picking up items)?

It's as dumb as dog turd, ..... but fun to play around with none the less. Just hope work on it keeps progressing.

The CPMA bots (which are fantastic btw...as bots go) were a product of collaboration between arq, the spiterbot dude, and someone else I can't remember. Stands to reason that any bot dev. for q4max will likewise be a team effort.

edit: and since I'm a quakeworld FREEAAKKKK, I'd be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to Robert Field, author of the Frogbot...IMO the best dueling and TDM bot ever created for quake.

Yes. He went on to work on Epic (the unreal game bots), Devastation, and Shadow Ops.

I always liked his bot AI. I still fire up Quake1 and play Reapers once in a while.

I was talking about Id's bots vs spiter and was thinking of cpma at the time not cpma vs spiter. I prefered playing cpma bots.

I read he's just joined the Q4F team so we can assume he'll be coding the bots for that mod.

to stop this embarassing confusion..

Reaper Bots made by Stephen Polge (early q1 bots.. Reaper is regarded as father of all bots.. but now reapers fail in comparision with the newer Frogbot or even Omicron bots, however they have large sentimental value to quakers)

Omicron Bots made by Mr. Elusive (Quake1 bots.. prolly the best q1 bots after Frogbots)

Frogbots made by Robert 'Frog' Field and improved later by many, many people. these bots are the best q1 bots because they are based on a waypoint system to properly navigate maps. this inspired Mr. Elusive to do the AAS for Gladiator bots, the very same system that will end up also in Q3 (modified of course).

Gladiator Bots also by Mr. Elusive (best quake2 bots. (period) )

Quake3 Bots also by Mr. Elusive.
Note that the name of the show is "Trippin'" and not "Tripping" because the addition of the letter "g" would not be consistent with the views of MTV's urban youth demographic who tend to frown upon linguistic formalities such as proper enunciation. I mean, proper 'nunciation, yo!
