Local connection problem

Post by htown »

I am using a 2wire modem with built in wireless router (SBC issued) and I have a lap top with Q3A and a PC that is ocnnected to the 2wire modem. I set up the game on the laptop, I go to the PC and I see the game on the Local server list (there is only one to choose fromof course) and I select FIGHT. the next screen just asy s Joing the game and starts to count. I never join the game.

I was on the phone with SBC Gloabl for over an hour trying to figure it out and never did which has led me hear. Hopefully someone here can help me out. My 12 year old is driving me crazy wanting this to work.

I am at your mercy. :icon27:
The Laptop has no firewalls and I turned off the one on the PC and disabled Norton Antivirus. (no Internet security was on either.)

I would appreciate any further ideas.

Does 'no firewalls' include the Windows XP built-in firewall?

Both copies of the game are on the same version? (bring down the console with the key below ESC and check the lower-right for a number).

I think we need more details to fix this one. Do other games work?

XP Firewall is off on both.

There are no other games to test over the network. This is just a small two computer network.

Both games are version 1.32. Before we moved we had Comcast cabla and I had a Linksys Router and it worked fine. Just leads me to belive that it is something to do with the router (firewall) but Tech support with SBC could not figure it out.

Do you have ethernet ports on both? You could connect them with a crosslink cable if you do, without using a router.

I do have these ports on both but I am not sure how to hook this up. What will I need to do/have? (Harwdare and set up)

I am pretty computer savy but when it comes to networking I am pretty much green.

Thanks

All you need is a crosslink(twisted pair) cable, ethernet ports and set up a local connection through xp which is pretty easy.
