I just downloaded the demo to try this game. After selecting the game to run I get a box with this message at the top " Q_RNCPYZ: NULL src "
(I did this message in caps because in the subject line it looks like an m after the Q_st)
and this is as far as it goes, no game. I am running a P2 400mhz 512mb ram and the video is listed as ATI -264 VT2 and the audio as ESS 1969PCI AUDIODRIVE (WDM). This computer uses a Seanix motherboard # Columbia BX 1x/2x 701547.
I am new to computers and to this game and saw this demo dwlded and run at a friends house and it worked OK. I really didn't get a chance to play the game and would like to try it before purchase and now I have this concern if it will even run on this machine.
Can anyone help?
Q_strncpyz: NULL src Game will not start
Your graphics card is almost certainly the biggest limitation of the system.
From what I can find on the ATI 262 VT2, it was released in 1997 and was a budget card even back then. It has 1Mb of ram onboard and probably doesn't do 3d graphics at all.
The rest of the system will be capable of running Quake 3 from what I can see, if you add a more modern graphics card.
Anything from the TNT2, Geforce series will suffice second hand, you shouldn't expect to pay more than £20/$30 for a card suitable for the system.
If you decide you do want to upgrade, we could probably point you at some suitable items currently up on eBay. If you decide to upgrade and get something brand new, I'm sure we could likewise direct you at the cheapest cards/retailers to meet your needs.
