So, where can I get a decent timedemo to test with?
That ggl-timedemo file seems to have been removed from the faggoty site.
timedemo
hmm i have one i use to benchmark changes - I just recorded a bit of my own playing online
erm its here if you have need for it http://homepage.ntlworld.com/kleeks/qua ... ps.netdemo save it to baseq4/demos and then type into your console - let it run through and post results
btw the 100.71 was achieved with my system :-
3OS: WinXP Professional 5.1 Service Pack 2 (Build #2600) 3CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+, 2.41 GHz 3Video: Plug and Play Monitor on nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX (1024x768x32bpp 120Hz) 3Sound: SB X-Fi Audio [9C00] 3Memory: Used: 608/2047MB 3Uptime: 2d 17h 44m 11s 3HD: [C:] 29.44/48.83 GB 3Connection: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller - Packet Scheduler Miniport @ 100.0 Mbps (Rec: 52.09MB Sent: 45.60MB)
I've since tweaked it up to 109fps or so, but only when i ramp up the clock speed on the cpu to 2.52 GHz- i can see very little change when i alter grphx settings (AAx2 or AAx8 - high or low quality textures)
Oh and i have the 81.95 forceware drivers, and I am currently running quake4 1.04 patch ( theres a clash with the 1.05 patch and the forceware drivers somewhere and i lose 20 fps when i install and benchmark it)

The GGL demo is still available, cut and paste this URL to your address bar. Clicking on the link doesn't always work as the server checks HTTP referrer

Guru3d offers a benchmark for q4 now. Here's the link:

With q4max vertex lighting you can hit some impressive numbers (50-60fps) with crappier rigs now...Grudge wrote:lol, I got a lousy 37.95fps in the ggl timedemo at 1024x768 with default (non-optimized) settings
even with super optimized settings I won't get more fps, which means that it's the CPU that's the bottleneck
Good thing I'm going to buy myself a new system for Christmas.

Ok, I got my new rig a couple of days ago and I've been benchmarking a bit this afternoon.
Old rig: XP2400+ @ 166x12.5, 1024MB PC2700 DDR RAM, Radeon 9800Pro 128MB, 80GB Maxtor DiamonMax 9 Plus PATA HDD
Q4 1.0.5.0, ggl timedemo, medium detail, 1280x1024: 31.69 fps
New rig: A64 X2 3800+ (stock speed), 1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM, XFX 7800GT OC (450MHz), 200 GB Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA HDD
Q4 1.0.0.0, ggl timedemo, high detail, 1280x1024: 64.49 fps
Q4 1.0.5.0, ggl timedemo, high detail, 1280x1024, r_useSMP 0: 62.64 fps
Q4 1.0.5.0, ggl timedemo, high detail, 1280x1024, r_useSMP 1: 64.95 fps
So, the 1.0.5 patch doesn't do anything for a dual core AMD processor. Seems like it's all Intel gayness.
But I'm going to overclock this new X2 baby, she'll probably go up to at least 2400-2500MHz on stock cooling (effectively making it a 4800+), and run a few more timedemos.
