Computer crashes after adding RAM?
Computer crashes after adding RAM?
That's right, I just bought 512 Mbs of RAM today and since I've installed it my computer seems to crash when I play q4 and when I'm watching Windows Media...so far.
I got the exact same brand/type (Kingston) of RAM and it's installed properly.
What's the deal...any thoughts?

clean the connections, I had a major problem with that...I tore apart the entire thing before the guy said, hey try cleaning the connections... (rubbing alkie and cotton swab worked for me) also, make sure the timing is the same and all that jazz? might also be bad ram. also check connections, somthing might be loose...like power supply...
more ram doesn't need more power right? (rightt?)
what about heat?

Connections are rarely a problem unless the chassis and board are filthy and different timings don't matter. Chances are that one stick is bad.primaltheory wrote:clean the connections, I had a major problem with that...I tore apart the entire thing before the guy said, hey try cleaning the connections... As for the PSU comment, thats highly unlikely.

Pop the case open again and check your connections. It could indeed be a ram problem, but then again something could have come loose or been damaged while you were putting the RAM in (it's not the easiest stuff to insert after all).
I wouldn't expect unmountable boot error with bad ram.
