A good set of Cans

Post by Foo »

I already knew this but it's struck me again and I feel like posting it.

Don't you feel that a decent set of full-size headphones still blow the shit out of anything else quality-wise? 5.1, 7.1... whatever. You'd have to spend 1000s to get anything near the atmospheric audio you can acheive with 100 notes on a set of headphones.

I'm in the market for a set of high-end Koss phones for home audio and probably mobile too.. but in the meantime I've bought a pair of £15 Sony cans, and they sound comparatively fucking brilliant.

My surround system isn't half bad, and my other headphones are a high-end set but smaller buds (mic/headset combo).

Cans = win.

Lol, even my 128kb MP3s sound like completely different pieces of music through these, and these are *cheap* cans.

Yea, I got some 60 dollar sony noise cancelling phones, and these things rock, the drivers in this thing are lil bulldogs, I had it plugged into my pc at extreme full volume, and it played louder then my 2.1 set and didn't break...

the noise cancelling works great too, i can have it at half volume with the cancelling on and i cant hear shit and its like amazing

I have the Sony MDR-V700DJ:

but I don't recommend them since they aren't comfortable. Get the Sony MDR-V600, I've heard they're very good.

Indeed. While Big systmes are fun, 'cans' own :icon14:

I've got a set of Koss PRO4AAT's and they're awesome.

And with Koss's Lifetime warrenty, if they ever break or ware out, I just call them up, send them in and they'll replace them with the same model, or upgraded version of that model. :icon14:
Basically , you spend the money once, and you've got a high quality set of sterophones for a lifetime.

Koss owns.

Sennheiser makes some quality stuff too. But they're a bit on the pricy side.

I have a set of Zalman 6-speaker 'surround sound' headphones plugged into my computer for gaming. Not bad, though the 'rear' speakers tend to sound a bit muffled.

Curious, how well do normal cans (like the Sony's or Koss' mentioned above) do at simulating surround sound compared to full surround sound systems?

Dolby Headphone is pretty convincing, but none of the demos stand up to a full surround system. i'm not even going to get into the direct radiator vs headphone debate.

my headphones

They aren't the most comfortable thing in the world when you buy them, but they eventually fit your head (even though it adjusts), and other then that I love them!

(NC6 i think)

Indeed, I've had to stop many friends and family from even thinking about Bose shit many a time.

I usualy print this out and give it to them.
