This is possibly the best, most well-thought-out legislation I've seen come out of Washington in the last 5 years.
Not only does it require paper ballots for every voting machine in the country, and restricts certain political activities of voting officials as well as voting-machine industry executives, as well as making voter manipulations federal crimes, but it makes Election Day a federal holiday! I'm sure the republicans are going to do everything they can to keep this from going through - especially since the holiday part will allow millions of poorer people to vote who normally wouldn't be able to.
With the Congress strongly controlled by republicans, I'm not too sure how far the bill will go, but I'm also curious what kind of slanderous talk they would be able to work up about denying people the right to vote, if they really want to stall the bill out.
At any rate, it's still good news, and it's good to see that at least a couple of our elected officials are paying attention, besides just Ron Paul and Waxman.

I'd certainly like to see SOME form of accountability put in place in this sham of an electoral process. When you have people like that asshole CEO of Diebold publicly promising to get monleyboy elected and no one freaks the fuck out about it, something's badly off-kilter.
Speaking of that, does anyone have a link to that prick making that statement? I know I heard(read) him saying it, and I have folks here at work that don't believe me.

amazing legislation, except as the comments under that link point out, republicans will try to shove this one under the table and out of the public's eyes. its really meant as a piece of legislation to show people what dems would do in power for the upcoming midterm elections. Smart move by clinton and boxer, i gotta admit. here's hoping it even makes it to the senate floor
