Need help installing Q3A on Windows 2000 NT.

Post by Sir Rober »

Hey guys and gals. I'm a newbie here and was hoping someone could help me out with my situation. I'm not the brightest bloke when it comes to computers so the more detailed the help the better.

I am trying to install the game at work. The computer should be able to handle the game: PIII, 136RAM, plenty HD space and the graphics card is a Matrox Millennium G200. I have not yet updated the driver on the graphics card because I think my problem lies with the OS which is Windows 2000 NT.

When I put the Q3A disc in and autorun begins I get the following message to pop up:

16 Bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\Autoexec.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I have tried hitting ignore instead of close but nothing happens. I was hoping there was an easy solution to getting the game to install without affecting the operation of the computer in any way. Please let me know if any other info is needed and I appreciate again any help I can get. Thanks.

Start by running a full virus scan using up to date software or an online scanner like Trend Micro's. If that comes up clean then copy the autoexec.nt file from C:\windows\repair over to C:\windows\system32

Thanks Tormentius. I'm running a full virus scan using the computers software then will probably try out Trend Micro's also just to make sure it didn't miss anything the first time. Once the scans are done I'll let you know how I make out copying the files. Thanks for your help mate.

Well scans were done and I copied the file over like you recommended and it worked like a charm. Excellent.

My performance isn't great but it is playable plus I still need to update the driver for the graphics card. Also, when attempting to go online I kept getting 'Master server not responding' message. I'll check around the forum to see if anyone else has had this issue. Thanks again T and happy fragging.
