Thumb Drives

Who makes the best thumb drives? I'm thinking of a Corsair 2GB Flash Voyager. I like Corsair RAM and am hoping that the thumb drive is as good as their RAM. What do you guys think, as I'd like some other opinions before dropping that kind of money.

Corsair's flash disks are fine techically but design wise the lit is a bit weak - there's nowhere to attach it to the pendrive when not in use and it gets lost fast.

Sandisk make better pendrives, on that criteria.

Sandisk ain't given me a reason to be dissatisfied.

I don't think there is much difference between the internal hardware on thumb drives. I have 2 Sandisk Cruzer Mini's, a Lexar Jump Drive Secure and a cheap no-name brand. Haven't noticed any difference between them other than exterior design.

As Foo says, it's nice to have something to attach them to since they are rather small. So a neckstrap or keychain would be nice.

Thinner designs are better. Bulky ones are hard to plug in since most USB ports are stacked rather close together, so if you have any other devices plugged in you may not have enough room.

I like my SanDisk Cruzer Mini.

If you want the smallest and thinnest one there is, go for the PQI Intelligent Stick. It's a lot faster than the Cruzer Mini. It's so small (thin) that you can keep it in your wallet easily, but i prefer to use it with the transparent plastic holder (not shown in every review). It seems like a new version has been released that has doubled transfer speeds (18/12 MB/s R/W), since i got my I-stick 2.0. The I-stick 2.0 Pro 85 is probably one of the best/fastest ones you can get. Sadly they only come in capacities up to 1 GB. I've never needed more than the my 512 MB I-stick though.

I'd still like to have one that has a casing that's no thicker and wider than the USB connector itself though.

I'm afraid of breakage from one of those kind of USB drives. My no-name brand key is like one of those. The USB connector isn't metal, it's plastic, so it may be prone to cracking with extended use. It's a 32MB that I got for free, so I don't use it, but it does make me nervous.

Well, mine is just as durable as any good thumb drive when i leave it in the plastic holder (it has a normal metal usb connector). Without it, it might be a bit more vulnerable but i bet a 100 kg person could stand on it without even damaging it. A woman on stiletto heels might be a different story.
