hrhr i did the same, within a few days of finding out q4 did not run properly on my old rig, I had brand new parts winging their way to me. (plastic + late night online shopping = trouble)
yep, i would say q4 should be running smoothly with your new bits, not sure about shadows - they can be taxing for even the best machines. and personally i'd prefer to have 2 gig of ram (twinned naturally)
edit :- oh and wtf, must purchase Xp home with hardware :-o

Called the place and changed the RAM to this:

Thank you for the advice. :icon31:

hmm not sure what you ordered, it throws an error at me :/
ADODB.Recordset error '800a0e78'
Operation is not allowed when the object is closed.
/mwave/ASPpagedata/page.shoppingcart.asp, line 7
on the ram side, i am pretty sure you'd be better off with 2 (twinned) 1 gig sticks, than 4 x 512 - I'm thinking something like this >>

If it matters, go for xp pro rather than xp home...
good intro read on the differences here:

(googled xp home vs xp pro)

Most home PCs don't suffer at ALL from not having the "pro" version. I run XP Pro at home because I actually do have an Active Directory domain on my home LAN.. If you don't have a Windows server environment, features like IIS aren't really enough to add up the cost for the Pro version, methink.
I have seen dozens of XP home PCs upgraded to Pro because it's "better"... if you're not using the extra network or security features (terminal services, group policy client, etc).. Don't pay extra for features you won't use.

No, you don't need Pro. Go hard, though.. :icon26:

The game runs like a dream -- faster than these forums -- anyone notice the forums real slow lately?
Some reason I was getting dropped sounds (using the onboard audio) so I did this -- by a suggestion from fellow gamers:
s_maxchannelsmixed 48
s_restart
I'm thinking I should probably invest in a decent sound card. I use mainly headphones for gaming.
Is this card any good?

Thank you. :icon31:

yeah i got and x-fi fatality (spot the cheesey name) But the sounds are pretty impressive (lol scrap pretty - they rock)
I've read alot about the new drivers for other audigy boards that support openal, and various problems people are having. I do get the odd dropped sound, and the occasional loop still - but compared to my previous card the difference is nothing short of incredible.
