I recommend the full 1 hour talk, as it gives greater insight into his vision:

i read an articall about it a little while ago, the whole idea is not to create a game but more of an editor that gives the player the chance to create there own game and play it how they like

there is no story line or goal just an entire univirse that you can do what the hell you like in

ace idea :icon31:

Great direction to go IMHO. Why bother adding more polygons to a fucking face when the game behind it is boring as shit? *cough* Doom 3 *cough*.

This guys messing with GAMEPLAY and it looks to be paying off. Good luck to him.

Wow, this is the first time I've heard of it.

"If that's not ambitious enough, the creatures and worlds created within one copy of "Spore" will be transmitted to an online database that will disseminate them to the universes of players around the world."

CNN - E3 2005 Roundup
"The behind-closed-doors demo left journalists' jaws on the floor."

MSNBC - E3 2005 Roundup
"Those traits you set early in the creatures' evolution manifest themselves in strange ways throughout the game."

Wired.com - E3 2005 Roundup
"I don't want players to feel like Luke Skywalker. I want them to feel like George Lucas."

Directions Magazine - E3 2005 Roundup
"One of my goals for this whole thing has been to give somebody an awe-inspiring global view of reality, almost like a drug-induced epiphany with a computer."

Gonna have to look into it more, it sounds cool as shit.

LOL.

Just finally watched the google vid, and man I'm impressed. It's like a mixture of all the most popular game genres out there, with the added benefits of letting you control the direction of the game, ability to use and abuse anything that any other player has created, and seemingly an almost infinite scale.

On top of that it forces people to think on a much larger scale than they are used to, and makes scientific ideas approachable to complete lay people.

I can't wait to see how widely this is played when it's released. I'm definitely buying it.

I'm going to go ahead and bet that it's going to be dull, and repetitive with no surprises after you've played 30 min into it. Good effort though.

I heard they changed the name to Black & White 3. Keep in mind this is just a rumor.

at first i was excited when they kept mentioning that the other creatures were created by other players. then they said that the creatures that other players made were downloaded via a database that everyone connects too, thus cutting out any real multiplayer value. if i could actually have a direct affect on a nother players game then i might be more interested. as it stands i can't imagine the replay value of this game being very high at all.

cool concept though.

you missed the whole point of asynchronous "multiplayer" - it isn't about competing with other minds - it's about extraordinary creative control.

the point of automatically dloading other player's creations is to intelligently and automatically fill in the universe "ecosystem" so as to create a dynamic source of complexity, from which you can creatively derive your own order.

your loss

this is a truly groundbreaking concept in gaming history, regardless of whether it can be successfully pulled off.
