I've used both...giganews has better retention, but its more expensive. Newshosting gives you the most bang for your buck.

i used to use another one, forgot the name though
blazing speeds, only $15 a month and unlimited :)
which was handy since I downloaded 200 gb a month, most times more :S

looks like newshosting.com offers $15/mo for unlimited. its kinda weird they would also offer the limited plans:

Limited Cost
10G/month $10
25G/month $20
50G/month $30
60G/6mo $50
150G/6mo $100
300G/6mo $150

Unlimited Cost
Monthly $14.95
6mo $83.70
12mo $155.40

whatever, I'm sure there's some complexities to their pricing they don't put on the front page. Thanks.

most likely the unlimited plans are capped for speed

so, a question i've always had about usenet -

if the RIAA etc go after emule servers which don't host warez, do they also go after usenet servers that do? how is usenet 'safer' than P2P? i don't get it

I think it's much more common to get warez from regular p2p than usenet. also p2p is easier for kids, and they're going after the kids. my theory on that is because if they scare the crap out of the kids then not only will they not do it themselves but they'll teach their own kids not to do it down the road.

What about the free services that come with your ISP. OOL has unlimited download with 7-14 day retention

I got ratted out by my ISP a few years ago for downloading a movie on kazaa. They probably keep an eye on what people do on usenet as well. It's not as easy (still quite possible) for them to see what I'm downloading from usenet if I use another service.

btw in case you were wondering, they suspended my service until I signed something (electronically) saying I wouldn't do it again. so uh.. they slapped me on the wrist. I stopped using that shitty p2p app after that anyway.
