beer on my laptop

Post by horton »

one glass of beer on the keyboard.
everything is still working apart from the kb/mouse

shouldnt be an issue as i use a usb mouse/kb anyway

however...it seems to know the kb/mouse is fucked, and is beeping at me non stop.

i tried turning off the system speaker via device manager..according to that its disabled now, however i still hear beeps every second.

i cant enter bios as it wont let me hit the relevant key at startup, via my usb kb. and the kb doesnt work when i use an adapter and not use usb.

seeing as i cant get into bios...cant turn it off with device manager, the only solution ive thought of so far is opening the laptop and ripping out the speaker wires...however i would rather not if possible.

anything i can do via windows to remove this gay sound?

Place it upside down so the beer can drain out and let it fully dry for a day or two.

its been a few days already..
i assume the beer has dried, and kinda gone sticky somewhere...short of pulling all the keys off, and getting a soapy sponge on it, i dont think cleaning is gonna sort it..soapy water vs computers scare me.

are there any major issues regarding taking a laptop apart?
i assume its the same as taking apart a desktop, but i aint sure.

for me the easiest way if im unable to disable the speaker through xp/bios is to rip the wires for the speaker out, as im able to use the laptop with another kb/mouse, infact i was using usb kb/mouse before i fucked it up.

Taking a laptop apart is somewhat the same but its much more of a pain in the ass. I wouldn't recommend soapy water either.

any ideas as to why, and more importantly how to solve the fact that although device manager says the system speaker is disabled, its still beeping?

You need to disable it in the BIOS. Disabling it in the device manager only stops Windows from using it, but if there is an error on POST, the BIOS will sound an alarm anyway.

unfortunatly i cant access the BIOS.
i have my KB plugged into my USB port...hitting the F2? or whatever key it tells me to on startup to access BIOS doesnt work.

I try plugging the kb into the PS2 ? port with an adapter...the KB refuses to work, even when windows is loaded

the original laptop kb is fucked, so i cant use that to access the BIOS..

any clever ways to access the BIOS that Im not aware of?
anyway when u are in windows, to make it automatically go straight to BIOS next time u restart?

hmmmmm...

i just got annoyed trying to get into the BIOS
i ended up losing my temper, and going from pressing the keys..to pounding them. to punching the keyboard.

and now it works!!!

i shall pass that tip on to anyone who asks me..
PC fucked? punch it.

I have the feeling this will come back to haunt me, but right now I dont have a beeping sound, so all is good

Demineralized water would be safest to clean with. The sticky dried up beer probably contains salts that conduct electricity to some degree.

jesus, it's free ions in the water that cause the problems, not salt.
