Quake 3 cheats do not work-error message

Whenever i try and type sv_cheats 1, or even set it on command line, it will say "sv_cheats" is read only.

so i check, and no matter what folder it is, every folder on cd appears as read only, but i can edit anything, but cant set it back... why is this?

try starting the server with "/devmap q3dm17" instead of "/map q3dm17"
that should do it

what if im playing in a western quake map?

what? western as opposed to eastern? is western a mod?
just load up whatever mod and type "/devmap [mapname]" ...or, better yet- don't play with cheats

go to the console (the key below ESC)

type in \mapname

press enter

it should give you the name of the level you're on.

Then enter \devmap insertnamehere

then try the cheats.

To the OP: the /devmap thing is the answer you're looking for.

Put:

cd ..
start quake3.exe +set dedicated 0 +set sv_cheats 1 +devmap <mapname>

On a notepad, and name it Server.bat. Put the batch file you just made into your Q3A folder. Make a shortcut from it to desktop. Double Click it.

When in game, wanna cheat on another map? \devmap <mapname>

The reason it says "sv_cheats" is read only, is because sv_cheats is only read on server start-up scripts or .cfg

Thanks v1l3, those cheats works for me on multiplayer...The next problem i have is that everyone who joins that server can use the cheats...

How can i restrict the amount of people that can use the cheats?

e.g. If ONLY I wanted to use the cheats...or SOME of my friends but not all?
