Q3 arena gold installation problem

Post by lost&dead »

Good evening/morning/afternoon/whatever

I am having issues with the installation of this game, and was hoping someone here would be able to help me determin how to remedy the problem. This is the message I get:
An error occured during the move data process:-113

Component: Minimum
File Group: Minimum
and then it points me to the Announcements & News page shortcut

I pass this error message and it goes through the rest of the setup process, but going to the folder to which it installed revels that only the baseq3 files are installed.

Download the 1.32 pointrelease from iD's FTP server (or one of its many mirrors) and install it.

that's an installshield error. usually means a missing or corrupted file on the installation media.

you could try copying the contents of the CD to your hard drive and running the installer from there (maybe during copying you'll see which file is the problem).

or you could try running it with logging to identify which file it starts getting stuck on.

to run it with logging:

start > run > type "cmd"

CD to whichever disk is the CD, eg: CD E:\

then type:

msiexec /i "<name of installer>.msi" /l*e C:\q3.log

now wait for it to finish and look at C:\q3.log to find where the error occured.

copy to HDD only gave folder cannot copy errors, and I could copy the individual files over without issues

when I try the thing with the command prompt, It says to make sure the file exists and the log has no text

I found the Q3 executible file, and it gives me an error of "couldn't load default.cfg"

The files themselves copy ok? Then make a new folder 'q3' or whatever, and inside make a 'baseq3' folder. Drop the pk3 files into 'baseq3'. Drop the game exe into the 'q3' folder.

could not load default.cfg because that file is in pak0.pk3 on your cd in the baseq3 directory.

see if you can copy only pak0.pk3 to your hard drive .. if that works then all you would need is pak0.pk3 in your quake3/baseq3
directory then apply the 1.32 pointrelase to that quake3 directory.
quake3.exe and all remaining pk3 files are in q3pointrelease 1.32

hopefully pak0.pk3 works ..if it does then all is good

or simply install pointrelease 1.32 then drop pak0.pk3 wherever the
baseq3 directory is made .. same place as pak2.pk3 to pak8.pk3
