Post players config's!

Post by Just another player »

You can use other people's config's, correct? I tried using someone's config from planetquake3, I did as the instructions asked me, copy the config file overwrite the original, but nothing happened. Was I supposed to load it up from the main menu? I would try again but I deleted it and I can't find on planetquake3 the config page.

But as the topic states, please post config of other players!

I just made a config file, it's in my baseq3 folder, and am trying to load it from the console typing " /exec cfg " but it's not working.

It told me to save it into notepad as ".cfg" but notepad would not let me put a " . "before "cfg"

Any suggestions please?

open my computer

then click
tools then click
folder options then click
view then check
hide extensions of known filetypes

i think the cfg's are being saved as ?yourconfig.cfg.txt

delete the .txt part and it should work

Here's my cfg:

http://rapidshare.de/files/17243613/aut ... P.zip.html

Rename it to autoexec.cfg and put it in baseq3. But before you do, backup your q3config.cfg and delete it from baseq3. Then run the game once to auto-generate a new q3config.cfg. Then put my autoexec.cfg into baseq3, and run the game again, this way you will get 100% of the settings that are in there.

Hope ya like it. :o

any cfg you exec will write to q3config.cfg permanently so backup your original q3config

I'm such a friggin' idiot!! For whatever reason I wanted to view the file in notepad to see the cmds you have and now all my CFG files are in NOTEPAD format!!! I tried checking and unchecking "Hide Extension Files for Known Types" to see if that would maybe reset it, but that didn't work.

Whats notepad format? as long as they end in .cfg it doesnt matter. Note pad just opens all .cfg files from now on. It doesn't effect anything. If you wanted to open the file with another program, just right click the file then click "open with".

I did but the file is an unknown file.

I also tried putting it into baseq3 folder and exec it but it said it couldn't read the filetype because I'm an idiot who changed it to notepad. :(

Notepad doesn't open .cfg files by default, but you can tell windows to always open .cfg files with notepad. Rightclick a config file and choose "open with" and select notepad.

Don't use "hide extensions of known file types". Uncheck it so you can be sure that the extension is .cfg.

It's kinda weird some places want you to put the .cfg file in your baseq3 folder and some of them in your main quake III arena folder.

and yes my baseq3 folder is in my main quake III arena folder.

fat's config is old... prolly has an illegal pov or something. check the console log and it'll say what the illegal cvar is.

Yeah figured so. Thanks.

Can you have more than 1 .cfg file in your baseq3 folder? Do they all have to be named q3config.cfg? can you name each .cfg differently as long as you exec the file you're wanting?

I uninstalled Quake III Arena to reinstall for fresh start. And now my ping is sky high! 200's-300's ping. It can't be my internet because everything else is working fast like normal. And unfortuantly I don't have any other games to test to see if it just might be a connection problem but like i said it can't be because pages are loading fast with no problem. Are there certain commands I need to type in to make my ping low? I usually have a ping of 50 and no higher than 90. I was thinking it might've been a .cfg file that made it go up but I took that out and doesn't seem to be.

And ;cg_crosshairsize no longer works for me. It tells me it's an invalid command. Don't ask me why I have no idea.

I should just uninstall the game and just forget about it.

I don't understand why my ping is so high now. It goes from 150 to 280 to 390!!! It's never done that before, it might if I'm dling something or have something running but I don't play if I have other programs running. This is just strange, i'm in a server where I play all the time and I've always pinged well there.

My cfg has all the connection settings for broadband, should be on the lower part of the cfg. Copy them over or whatever and see what you get then.
