need a low-resourse antivirus

Post by §ìgñå »

can anyone recommend a free low-resourse anti-virus. something with real-time protection.

This is for an old laptop of mine that Ill be selling to a friend. its a p2-400 with 256mb ram. runs xp ok, but when putting anti-virus on it it really chokes it down. so I'm looking for something of a minimal resource hog. ideas?

If you install AVG you can de-activate the resident shield.

Seems to work OK for me. If he's downloading files he needs to make sure he scans them, that's about it...

Otherwise, AVG still feels pretty light even with it enabled. Alternatively, Antivir looks sufficiently ghetto that it'll probably run on a gameboy

AVG has atrocious trojan-handling but antivir is pretty good.

Don't listen to ^misantropia^, he's lying!

Another vote for AVG Free Edition. Simple and lightweight, I like it.
