Outlook opening E-mail
Outlook opening E-mail
I am running windows XP, home, SP2 and use Outlook Express as my email program. I installed office and now when I open Outlook, it acts as the email program.
When I first opened Outlook, I clicked NO to importing mail etc and in Internet Explorer, Tools, Options, Programs, I have Outlook Express as the email program.
Anyone know how I can stop Outlook from opening my email when I open it.
I do have Outlook Express as the default email program and I clicked "do not ask again" when Outlook asked about being the default email program.

You can go to explorer | folder options | file associations and search for all traces of mail, and if it says outlook, change it all to outlook express.
or you can try using the set program access and defaults app in winxp, that should also work.
Coincidentally if you don't mind me asking, why aren't you using a more competent client like thunderbird? oe is pretty bad

OE does that.§ìgñå wrote:^^^ agreed. you want a client that can at least block embeded images from loading.
I still use OE too because i don't like the way Thunderbird handles attachments and dragging and dropping of mails is much less flexible than in IE. You can't even simply drag and an attachment to the desktop to save it. TB makes your mailbox inaccesible too (when you get a lot of mail) if you don't manually set the compacting settings correctly.
I'm a big Firefox fan and all, but i only need very basic e-mail functionality so that's good enough for me. I don't need the spam filter either because i don't get any spam (knock on wood).

I downloaded Thunderbird and have a couple of issues.
First, I have 2 identities with OE and when I opened Thunderbird and clicked yes to importing, it imported my address books [from both identities] into 1 address book.
Can I fix this without having to manually change everything.
And, how do I add another identity with Thunerbird? With OE, you just click file, add new identity and then you can just click file, switch identities. I dont see that with Thunderbvird.

I know, it's annoying that you can't just merge the imported address book with the main address book.corpse wrote:First, I have 2 identities with OE and when I opened Thunderbird and clicked yes to importing, it imported my address books [from both identities] into 1 address book.
