Quake 4 Expert Mod Available NOW!

The Quake 4 EXPERT mod is now available
for use with all native Q4 game modes (DM, TDM, CTF, etc.)
(though CTF is where it really shines!)

There are versions compatible with the 1.1 FINAL patch and one with the 1.1 BETA patch (you choose)

In the mean time, enjoy the features of the Expert mod:
-Silky smooth off-hand hook for true 3-dimensional combat
-Balanced Weapon damage
-All weapons given upon spawn (no scavenging around picking up weapons when you could be fighting!)
-Ammo and Health regen (no scavenging around picking up ammo and health when you could be fighting!)
-All-new Q2-style hand grenade primer weapon

A little history:

Actually, Alliance got permission from the Expert team.. Those sounds are from Q2 Expert.

Alliance was composed of Expert and Loki's Minions people. It was thought to be a good idea to merge the two mods for Q3. Differences in opinion as to hook style and in-game items caused a bit of a rift and, eventually, the LMCTF community basically squashed interest in the Expert-style game play at the time which is why there wasn't much in the way of Q3 expert stuff.

The only active member of the Expert team later developed Q3's Battlebots mod for Q3 which included great Expert-style gameplay and grappling bots but, for some reason, didn't get many servers and waned in popularity. It's still available for download on http://www.expertctf.net in case you might like to have some fun grappling around with your bots (they really play CTF and grapple pretty effectively during fights (not just to get from point A to B once in a while))

So, in short, the sounds were Expert's to begin with.

Yeah, I started in LM Q2 for a long time and got hooked (insert rimshot) Then I stumbled upon expert one day and never looked back. :icon25:

The main thing that hooked (I'm killing me!) me was the removal of the need to go and get weapons, ammo, health, etc. I was there to engage other players in pure combat (and capture the flag/assist in the effort via escort or defense) and NOT camp weapons, fight to get to a weapon, etc. etc.

Expert, for me, changed the focus of the game from the tired item camping that plagued 3-wave (to the point of macros people used to announce how many seconds until some power-up was going to spawn in) and shifted the focus back to the person-on-person combat that is really the foundation of why I play multi-player games and not just against the AI.

I want to fight other players. Period. Expert removes the barriers and time-wasters and makes that happen.

just a 4-player max... better server coming soon... Someone put up a DM server a couple days ago, check the forum at expertctf.net for info on that one...

Hoping some server admins crawl outta the woodwork and take an interest in the mod... So many q4 servers are sitting empty.. such a shame..

Of course, it would sure help if Raven released a patch and settled on it...

use the game browser of your choice (gamespy, kquery, all-seeing eye) to look for fs_game or fs_game_base="EXPERT" and/or servername contains "EXPERT" for more servers, by the way..

Hey goner, thanks for requesting the directory for expert on Quake 4 Files. I decided I would just upload the actual files myself, think you could swing by and check to make sure everything is in order?

I just uploaded the full package, and then all the individual pk4s for autodownload. Also, do you think you could discuss having the official expert ctf server utilize our service for auto-download? Maybe even have the default server cfgs point to us? :)

I don't see why not! :) currently they point to my work server which I'd like to change, eventually.. Just a matter of time.. Not to mention, I have the actual official server to set up -- as opposed to that 4-player server I have up now...

one thing.. How do I update those files? we've noticed a few bugs and have been fixing them and will soon have a version 1.0.2...

We have a railonly Expert CTF w/hook server running at 207.210.237.144:28004
16+ players

All standard maps for now but I am thinking about adding
map paks soon.
