Yeah, that's always the problem with something like that.

Goofos workaround works. Thanks.o'dium wrote:Oh for fucks sake, Quake 4 must be installed before it can work... But i copied Quake 4 over when i format so in other words FUCK IT.

So it's almost as retarded as it was...# The variables pm_bobpitch, pm_bobroll, pm_bobup, pm_crouchbob, pm_runbob, pm_runpitch, pm_runroll and pm_walkbob are no longer cheat protected but clients will not be able to override the server settings.
This is good though. A simple demo playing menu would still be a thousand times more convenient.# NetDemo playbacks have gotten a little bit easier with "tab completion". The playNetDemo command now uses tab complete to show available demos.

that patch still doesnt fix the main problem q4 has.
people with 3ghz cpu still have 30 fps drops in multiplayer with lots of players on the server.
if you wait and think that avarage player in 1 year will have 5 ghz cpu then you forget that then lots of new games will be out too. i doubt anyone will start playing old q4 then.

he 1.2 patch makes an entry in Start Menu\Programs with a link to Quake 4\Docs\readme_update_12.htm called "Start Menu". Rather sloppy.

I don't have that, I have a link to the 1.2 readme in Start Menu\Programs\Quake 4, where it should be
jagwah
Oh, never mind then. It's because i don't have the Q4 start menu folder in the first place.
Some new info about that registry workaround to install the 1.1 to 1.2 update:
it's possible to run it with the commandline option "Quake4_update_1.1-1.2.exe -a"
it will ask where to install the patch then.
The full 1.2 patch doesn't require the registry hack btw. You can add this to the sticky, riddla.

Source: [ id software ]We really mean it this time… The QUAKE 4 1.2 Point Release is now available. This update replaces the 1.1 patch released several weeks ago, and includes all of the changes outlined for that update, including: a fixed pure server system, a new AddonPak autodownloading system, voice chat in multiplayer, a forcemodel option, brightskins, smooth stairjumping, a one-minute warning for tournament matches, Hyper-Threading Technology and Dual Core support as well as a number of multiplayer specific fixes. For a complete list of changes, please see the ReadMe. The full 1.2 update will bring ANY previous version of the game completely up to date, and it includes the 4 new professionally made multiplayer maps as well as the QUAKEMAS multiplayer map pack.
We’ve also provided an incremental 1.1 to 1.2 update for anyone that had previously installed the 1.1 update – this is a smaller download but it will only operate if you’ve previously installed 1.1.
The 1.2 update does affect pure server and protocol consistency. Therefore, players who update to 1.2 from ANY previous version will only be able to play multiplayer against other 1.2 users, and save games and demos created on any previous versions of the game will not be compatible with the 1.2 update.
