Mouse Recommendations?

Right, I'm fed up with Logitech's durability issues, and I've not had good experience with MS mice, so can anybody recommend a decent, durable, wired mouse for gaming?

I've had 2 mx510s in the past year, and they've each developed odd USB and PS2 issues, such as cutting out every few seconds or completely spazzing out.

Could be, but I had one 510 go this way about 6 months ago, so replaced it with another which was fine until this week.

Also, it's not just flipping out on USB; I used a PS2 adapter and it doesn't like that either.

I've actually just ordered the bits for a new PC, so one way or another, it'll be problem solved.

Whilst I love the feel and performance of Logitechs, I've always had issues with mouse skates falling off, the deteriation of the finish, the bottom of the mouse smoothing off, all sorts of irritating stuff like that, so I'm interested in trying a different manufacturer.

Fair enough.

A summary of my thoughts then are that Logitechs seem to have the most solid feel to them. MS has the cheapest feel but the best drivers, and razer have shocking drivers and durability, but impressive specs.

There really aren't many other manufacturers catering to the high end mouse markets. You may be able to find some nice Genius hardware, but I've not seen any.

Well I had boomslag a few years ago, aquired on a hype/impulse buy, and yeah, quote the snipe man, it was the shitties mouse ever.

But their newest laser offering copperhead/diamonback have been getting damn good reviews. I'm on a mx518 myself btw.

The Copperhead has the best specs but i don't like the feel of laser mice (and they don't work on all mousepads). The Razer Pro is a Diamondback in white for graphics designers. Hence the name 'Pro'.

Shockingly good if you ask me. No problems at all with the drivers (for the Copperhead it's a bit different with the firmware updating) and perfect durability. My Diamondback feels a lot sturdier and reliable than my old MX500.

Buy a MX700 seriously.. its dirt cheap, and im betting itll never have issues..

I bought 1 the day they came out, i STILL have it.. while ive totally worn out the left click, thats not the mouses fault and it took a year + to kill it.. my second, paints wearing off, sure, but its still in perfect WORKING condition, and tbh i still cant tell its wireless beyond not seeing a cord..

Maybe your breaking the wire inside of the cable itself, which is why im suggesting trying a wireless..

You probably don't play any games or at least not Q3 then. Cordless == mouse lag unless you take the newest generation (G7 or MX610 perhaps).

Shit, I just looked at the bottom of my 510 and noticed both feet on the right side are starting to show a white edge where the feet are obviously beginning to slide away. Been using it on an allsop raindrop mat. I love the performance though, better than the microsoft V3.0 I used to have, although I did like that mouse. Oh well if this goes, I'll get a 518 or whatever's current. But I think this'll last for a little while longer. Did have a problem with this mouses sens spazzing out in q3 until I reinstalled the software. I think it had something to do with the mouseware advanced utility.
At least, I think I got rid of that problem.

My raindrop pad finally died. Had to get a new mouse pad. Went with the Allsop black basic mouse pad. :icon14:

The finish went REALLY nasty on that, and the charger contacts on the cradle stopped working.
Let alone which, as Oeloe says, cordless = BAD for twitch games.
The 700 is just more evidence for me against Logitech's build quality.

I had a Razer Boomslang, I loved the feel of the mouse but it fell apart so quickly that I won't buy another Razer. Just my $.02

The Boomslang is ancient now and Razer's current products are at least as durable as Logitech's (imho more durable). The popularity of the Copperhead and Diamondback are evidence of that. Just my 2$.

Disagree 100% with Oeloe. I grew up on twitch, and wireless does not handicap you if your using quality wireless..

Um.. hate to "burst" your bubble, but i do play Q3.. still, constantly, and some of the guys here if they remember, im not to shabby.. i play with a mx700.. theres no lag, sorry..

I cannot tell the difference between a wired MX500 and wireless MX700, Nor could i tell the difference between my 700 and a friends 510..

Yes, shitty wireless lags, quality wireless does not..

I'm also using the mx700, but I'm not the crazy competition gamer. I've never noticed any kind of lag on this mouse for either games or any cg applications that require a high level of precision. But maybe that's just me.

Wireless is heavy though, with the batteries and all, so I can see how some people with weak wrists might consider that "lag". I do rock climbing, so my wrists and forearms are pretty strong, so I guess that doesn't bother me as much.

i had a ball mouse for the longest time and did great with it.

then i went for a mx510 and thought i'd get used to it but something didnt seem right.

i always heard duey talking about the intellimouse 3.0 so i found some and also the 1.0, i cant see the diff between the two, just that the 1.0 was made in mexico and the 3.0 was made in china.

maybe i doen know what to look for

anyways, the minite i unplugged my mx , my comp seemed to un-lag.

i hadnt installed any logitech softwares at all either

so yea, now im going to give theese intellimouses a try.

I ended up plumping for the MS Laser Mouse 6000.
It verifies that the Logitechs were definitely faulty (2 MX510s with identical faults; coincidence?), and it actually feels quite nice, although it's a little light and plasticky when compared to the more solid feeling Logis.

Also, I know that it's done so that it can be an ambidextrous mouse, but having a side button on either side is a LOT more awkward than Logitech's 2-on-one-side arrangement. I keep involuntarily clicking the right side button.

As with any mouse, time will tell, but motion is incredibly smooth, and the driver is really quite nice.

Creative Fatal1ty mouse. I got it yesterday and it's the best and most innovative mouse I've ever seen.
