If you're trying to play over the internet, set it to "internet" not "local". Local is for LAN(your pc is hooked to thier pc with a hub or direct line, etc.)

Alternatively, try All Seeing Eye. It's a third party game browser that gives you much better results than the ingame. It's also much more customizable.

And exibit F. I've marked a few of the active threads (six out of seven) that are noobs posting questions easily answered in the stickies or by searching. This is almost all that happens in this forum. It is good that q3 is attracting new players, but something has to be done about their spamming q3 discussion with pointless threads about mplayer vs. internet, or how to run freezetag or why they get no servers in the game browser or if there are any custom maps for download or what are some good mods. Soon people will stop looking in this forum altogether.

With all due respect, noobies of any forums rarely think to read stickies, it's just the way it is and always has been. This particular forum made a thread a long time ago to find a way to get people to read stickies, and the 'read the FAQ' picture was born. It didn't really make a huge difference although I'm sure it's helped a little. We just dont know how many actually do read them before asking. I don't think its such a big deal though to directly answer someones question if they haven't read it. Don't forget, not everyone that comes to q3w is that computer savvy, and what seems simple to us can be bewildering and unfamiliar to many others, especially if they've never been to a messageboard before, so, patience is a virtue.

Btw, here is an idea that I think could be worth trying, to encourage reading stickies. In an ipod forum I sometimes go to, they've incorporated a line right above where you post a topic telling you to read the FAQ, and also, where you actually type, there is another line of info which disappears as soon as you start typing.
How about something like that here? And in big capital letters?
