The reason I want it is because I cant seem to follow players fast enough when they are a) flying through the air or b) strafing real fast.
Im not 100% sure but I think the pitch and yaw are protected by PB, im not sure how much you can alter them. I'll give it a go now in a min and report back. Cheers

Yeah it works a treat but it'll take some time to get a good, comfortable setting.
Seems that the restrictions might be more harsh on games like rtcw and ET because you can change the settings to make your mouse head height of your enemy. Of course you cant look up and down then so theres little point. Dont think any of that applies to quake tho..
Mouse accel worked on my mx500 but it didnt on my mx510 or now on my mx518. It makes the mouse go way too fast.

Just to add to the mix I found I couldn't get on with mouse acceleration at all as far back as the early q3 betas and have been playing without it ever since.
I'm not going to go down the route of having a no mouse acceleration is best or mouse acceleration is good arguement here, because I've found that every player has to find what is comfortable and good for them.
So with that out of the way here's my setup:-
Windows:-
The mouse speed bar is one notch under half way and mouse acceleration is off.
I use an old balled Logitech Mouseman (3 buttons on the top plus one for the thumb). I've had this mouse for ages and no other modern mouse has even come close to it. Unfortunately you simply can't buy them any more.
In game:-
sensitivity 10.75
m_pitch 0.025 (I think the default is 0.020, the extra 5 is enough to give me a consistent plunge depth (point the gun at the ground) for my rocket jumps in RA3).
mouse acceleration and mouse yaw are off and default respectively.
I have my screen res at 1024 * 768 . This will also have a determining factor on the mouse sensivity you'll want.
Again this post is just here to give you another perspective to look at. I hope you find a setting that works for you.
Good luck.
