on-line problems

well after i found Q3 at Staples and got bored of ut2004, I decided to install quake and play.
but whenever i try to join a game it says "Mis-typed CD Key or Invalid CD Key"
and can i play a map online if i dont have it downloaded? and can i download load something to let me?

Well ive opened up the file (Q3KEY or whatever) disabled all my firewalls and it still doesnt work. Ive renewed my ip.
And is it normal to have hour long download times? (For ingame map downloading?)

Autodownloading can be very slow, depending on the server and your settings (rate 25000 gives the highest download speed).
