Q3:TA Graphics Problem... [solved]

Post by Stereo »

My graphics on Quake III Team Arena are VERY messed up... I see black boxes with white outlines everywhere... However, my Quake III Arena is fine, but TA is... yea
How can I fix this? When I had my old GeForce2 it worked fine... I'm currently using a GeForce FX5200.

EDIT: I updated the game to lastest patch and my graphics to lastest update but the problem is still occuring

That black box graphic indicates 'image not found'.

This can happen if your TA folder is missing some PK3 files, OR if a rouge collection of files is replacing the files which should be there.

Remove any custom content from the TA folder and check again. Failing that, delete the TA folder, reinstall TA, and check it before adding anything new.

OK, I copied all the files from the disk to the folder, but now TA crashes after the Id intro...

Sounds like a bit of a mess.

My normal response to something like this is to start from scratch. Mainly because it's often simpler than doing all the little things that could fix it.

If you back up any config files and custom addons you might have installed, then uninstall the game and *completely* delete the Q3 folder, a fresh install should work perfectly. Obviously, don't add any of the stuff you backed up back to the game until you've verified it works without them.

if it doesn't work after a completely fresh install, I have no idea. If it does work after a fresh install, then it's either one of the custom files you have, or some other issue which is now gone.

Note that some player models can mess up shaders heavily because of their crap directory structure uppercasing the Scripts folder. Sephiroth and Neuget do this
