Breaking: Nintendo Announces New Revolution Name - 'Wii'
We, ah, yes. Also a british colloquiallism for 'piss'.
I'm not sure that's a genuine nintendo quote, and if it is, then I'm apalled at the mistake they've made in their research.
All the console manufacturers put a lot of though into the localisation of their consoles... a few consoles have failed because of it and they all take it very seriously. Sega even altered the dreamcast swirl colour from orange to blue for the western markets because of the underlying o perceptions of the colours between cultures.
Serious business!

I have absolutely no doubt that within a week of release, there will be pictures all over the net of people pissing on a Nintendo.Foo wrote:We, ah, yes. Also a british colloquiallism for 'piss'.

Now that I think of it, hell, that might even give their marketing a boost.

Once again confirmed is backward compatibility ("The new console plays all games from the current Nintendo GameCube generation"), and downloadable classic titles ("The console also will have downloadable access to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).")
Sold sir.

are they making a console or starting a cult?Jackal wrote:Thought you guys might want to see this:
Nintendo has officially announced the final name for its Revolution next-gen console, naming it the 'Wii'. According to its official Wii website, the new name for the console "represents the answer", and "will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else."
The site explains: "Wii sounds like "we," which emphasizes this console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play."
every nintendo press release i've seen in the last year leads me to the conclusion that they've totally flipped their lids.
Hey, did any of you read that interview with the PR guy who defended the new name? Typical PR drivel but it's an interesting read. Here's a link:

I was surprised by his response to the first question

Mizzy Atwood: We always stated thizzat Revolizzles was a code name like old skool shit. While it indicates tha disruptive nature of tha system, we wanted a name tizzy represents all inclusizzles coz that’s a hizzy point of tha system. It’s not `bout you or me – it’s `bout Wii. So, it’s basically a different kind of a system so i can get mah pimp on.
