Post by Iccy »

Im getting one tomarrow.

Im leaning to DS right now. I grew up on nintendo and found memories are making the screenies look very enticing.

You better be willing to get into the homebrew scene if you buy a PSP, atm that's all that it is really good for.

Homebrew is good on the PSP but keep in mind you cant play any of the latest games making it pointless ;)

Of course i'm gonna say DS. Because it has a tiny bit longer battery life and much, much better games. ;)

Homebrew is about only one thing: EMULATION BABY

Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Especially if they're talking about "legit" programs.

Best thing I ever did was mod my PS2. I've got an emulation dvd with nes/snes/genesis emulators + full rom lists. Retro heaven.

I bought Metroid Hunters on import last night from a UK seller, should be here by Monday, and i have the week off. Bliss.

Yeah, THAT Metroid hunters, voted best handheld game, best online handheld game and also longest bloody handheld game wait...

Its supposed to be awesome in ways you cant just type. Demo was ok, could of been better, but the shit that was broke in the demo is fixed now. Plus not only is it online Multiplayer, but it also has a metroid single player game which like the Cube ones (without the searching of new items, only weapons).

Cant wait.

Ridiculous.

The PSP has received some good games lately (Daxter, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror), but it's not competetive enough against the DS by far for someone who has the slightest idea of he's talking about to say it wins "without a shadow of doubt."

If a console that let's you rehash 10 year old games seems that exciting to you, so be it.

What do you need to do to get that shit anyway? I have a PSP but I've never connected to the internet with it or my pc. What exactly am I missing out on here? :)

You need version 1.5... and I think there are some later versions that have been cracked too. Plus the emulation software.

You cna only play homebrew on 1.5 atm, or if you have gta you can do it through a pain in the arse loader.

Its not really worth it. I mean like tnf said, the best game for it atm is dark mirror and to play that you need 2.6, which means you have to pick. Play the latest games, or play games from 10 years ago with poor frame rates and poor controls (thanks to sony nto knowing how to do a proper D-Pad design that is stupidly hard to do diagonal movement).

In other words, do you want to spend twice as much as you should on a portable system to play one or two good games?

Do you want to pay twice as much as you should to play old games with bad controls and poor frame rates?

Or do you want to pay a fair ammount for a decent console which si very, very fun and has loads of decent games for it?

The PSP has a lot going for it. Its got a good display, play films and music, and has nice-ish games. But for the most part, the targets are never hit. The movie player sucks because UMD is dead. The MP3 player is fine but the size of the PSP makes it retarded. The games have nice graphics but often poor frame rate and control, theres only a few out there that are any good. And the battery life makes it hardly "portable" when you need to sit next to a power outlet just to play the thing.

From my point of view, go with the DS. Save yourself a load of money and get more games. PSP is for bling kiddies who want to look good, DS is about gameplay and oldschool fun.
