I've been trying to play multiplayer quake 3. first we tried it with my friends computer and mine on our home network (which is fine with other games) and the games just don't appear in the listing when we create, however his computer works fine with other peoples. i get the same problem trying to play on the internet (cannot connect to master server). I've also tried just our two computers using a swap cable and still nothing. This is on Q3A as well as the demo.
I've tried reinstalling and still nothing.
Recently I updated Q3A to v1.32 and installed Qtracker. I can see plenty of games on Qtracker but everytime I try to join one it just goes to the 'awaiting challenge' screen and i wait patiently till about 60 then give up.
i have windows firewall but have put Q3A and Qtracker in as exceptions. I've also tried turning the firewall off completely and still nothing.
the only other thing i could think of is maybe the router has the port closed that Q3A uses? but i thought maybe not because i've tried with a swap cable and it still doesn't work.
please can anybody help me?
Multiplayer won't work!!!! (not a firewall issue)
still no good
I had a look through all the stickies and the only one I could find with anything relevant in it was the on in common q3 errors at:
http://www.quake3world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13296
i tried those things but it doesn't work still.
I get this message in the console when i open Quake 3 and I wonder if it has any relevance? it doesn't sound good.

i have enabled punkbuster.
i have excepted all the programs with my local firewall and it doesn't work, i've also tried with the firewall turned off and it doesn't work.
my internet connection is ADSL 512k, the ISP doesn't have a firewall.
i've accepted the fact that it probably won't work online because of router business, i was just trying that to test if i can get it working locally on a network but it's always these same errors. i'll try activision customer support and see what happens.
