networking question

Post by ToxicBug »

Is it possible to connect my modem to my computer without passing by the router? Like if I have two ethernet cards or something, one is in and the other one is out to the router?

The problem is that my ISP or my router keep on disconnecting when I when I'm using bittorrent. Everything is fine if my computer is connected directly to the modem.

Yeah, just set the one on your router for your internal network to have no Default Gateway. What this does is force any destination outside of your internal network out the path that has a gateway which should be your modem.

If flood or DoS protection is enabled on your router then disable it. You're probably getting too many inbound TCP packets which is causing the router to drop the connections.

Mine does the same thing. I think it even disconnects when not downloading torrent files.

I don't see this option in the router's settings, is it possible there is another name for that?

I meant the pc attached to the router. Not the router itself.

I guess blank out the default gateway in the tcp/ip settings of one of your network adapters.
