I think I've been working along similar lines to this for a while now, without ever giving it a name.

A good link next time someone posts 'HOW DO I PLAY ONLINE' or 'NEWBIE QUESTION'

Those problems are generally resolved pretty quickly here. Any 'help vampire' quickly gets closed while we all remain available in our area of expertise. Q3W is already a walled community as they call it. No need to burden the poor fellows with a degenerative title if they don't want to be helped.

The articles not about that, did you read it through? It offers some practical advice on dealing with the situation, where everyone involved benefits.

It's not just about spotting them, although that's important. Many a time someone here has posted an appropriate response to a vamp only to have their post followed by someone else giving a full and laboriously prepared explaination, which counterintuitively helps nobody.
