- Price: The Wii is cheap. Those that would rather buy a PS3 or XBox 360 would be more likely to buy a Wii as 2nd console than a PS3 or 360. This even more so because of the rather high price point of the PS3 and 360.
- Following a trend the DS has set: The DS has proven to us that innovative controls are more important (or just as important) as fancy graphics. The current criticism about the Wii is exactly the same as the criticism on the DS when it was first released.
- Nintendo's image starts to change: Nintendo's image is gradually changing from "the gaming company for kids" to "the gaming company with the new cool ideas". The response to Wii in general has been incredibly positive and while there are still doubters, it's very clear Nintendo's "disruptive" strategy does it's work. At the same time, Sony is building up a really bad and non-friendly image right now, something which might sway potential soccer-mom-buyers from the PS3 to the Wii side.
- New yet old: The Wii sports a new control system which allows for new innovative games. However, while the control itself is like nothing else, people can still play games like Metroid Prime and Zelda that look exactly the same as what they remember.
- Development for competition is expensive: With all the HDTV support flying around in the MS and Sony camps, development of games has become incredibly expensive. The Wii is a perfect platform for relative small developers to develop "small" innovative games that wouldn't work on other systems (both technically and marketing-wise).
- Wii is based on Gamecube technology: All the developers with Gamecube development experience can use all that experience when developing for the Wii, giving them a massive headstart over PS3 development and, admittedly to a lesser extent, XBox 360 development. A Gamecube devkit is pretty much all you need to develop for Wii, and a GC devkit is really cheap.
- Virtual Console: This alone is a reason for many people to buy a Wii. Still a bit of an iffy point though, since Nintendo hasn't announced anything about the pricing of this service.
- Nintendo has a large number of strong IP lines: While they're slated by a number of people for continually "recycling" Mario, there's a much bigger group of people who recognize Mario and identify with it's games. People recognize it from their childhood (hence the massive amount of positive responses to New Super Mario Bros and announcements of games like Yoshi's Island 2) and people know it's quality they'll get.
My reasons why the Wii might succeed
My reasons why the Wii might succeed
Here's a list I compiled that consists of reasons of why the Wii may in fact become a huge success:

Yeah it would also mean with every few games you buy, you get "free" games too, which is a fantastic thing to have pushing your sales.r3t wrote:Got 13.000 VIP points (stars) now. However Nintendo, while good in some areas, can be a little "behind" when it comes to pushing a product in the right way.
You cant put "PS3" and "Save some money" in the same sentence you fool_borsdy wrote:If you're only getting a 360 for gta then why don't you just get the ps3 version along with mgs and save some money?

on eurogamer.net (link: http://www.eurogamer.net/tv_video.php?p ... id=382&s=l) you can see some highlights of the Nintendo E3 press conference, and I believe the complete conference as well. VIP points, or stars as they are called on the website of Nintendo Europe, can be earned by signing up as a VIP member with a code you get when you buy a Nintendo first or second party game or console.

And then every game after that will add to them.
Both DS and GameCube games (Nintendo games, you know, hard hitters) all have VIP points inside the box, and they range in size, 50, 100, 200, 250 etc.
So you just collect them.
There was some great trades for them on the ninty site, like a Game Boy Player for your cube, but they were always sold out
Thats why it would be good, because we have them, loads of them. You get them free, so every so often you can get a retro game for free. Plus they kind of work like points already.

I'm still not 100% sure about Mario Galaxy. The control seems very "tacked on" at the moment. I think i'm kinda gutted they didn't do a "Mario 64 - 2".
However, it LOOKS stunning for such a little system, and the art style is superb. Of course i'll get it, but i just need to figure out the damn control

Just the fact that they are different, you know? Not saying i dont like them, just worreid i have to get used to them again. Hell i never liked metroid hunters controls but now i love them. Just takes time.bikkeldesnikkel wrote:it is much like m64 is it not, more then say, mario sunshine right
the controls seem fine too, what do you think is bad about them?
As for Mario Galaxy, no its not like Mario 64. In fact its probably MORE different than Mario Sunshine was. This time, you have a whole world to explore and move around, and its a completly different axis. Its looking less "platformer" and more "twitchey jumper". Plus the new moves that requires the Wii Wand.
It all looks different, thats all. Good? Bad? Nah, just different. I'm sure i'll love it. Just need to get my hands on that pad
