I agree. I've got a wristwatch that runs off the motion of my hand. Pretty sweet.
Yeah but you have to fuel your body to make it work.

there is a man in france with a farris wheel in his backyard that he has built and modified him self.. and it has been spinning for 12 years..

no motor's, no nothing... it just spins...

I've heard of that and seen it on TLC, is it legit?

Would you say a car using petrol (in unlimited quantites) does qualify as perpetual motion? Or does a car driven by solar panels qualify? The sun is an energy source, adding energy to a system is an easy way to get things moving.

Also I wonder if he has his house hooked to the thing, you know for power? I would, I mean why the hell not?

Well it does except it's not perpetual really, cause it'll stop when the sun goes down. The idea is for it never to stop. I know they don't concider using the sun as valid perpetual motion and it's true but it would be neat to be able to make something perpetualy move, even if it is with the sun's power as long as it continues to move at night. It's not like I'm going to outlive the sun right? So who cares if it's the source of energy.

Oh, I don't know, because it wouldn't work?!

nothing is hooked into it, nothin is powering it..

he did it because people say it will stop, its been 12+ years and it hasent stopped yet.

And in reguards to the solor car thing, if the sun isent there.. it wont work... thus its fuel is the sun.

Because then it is a solar powered machine rather than a perpetual motion machine? Nothing against solar power or anything, it simply is not the same thing as a perpetual motion machine.

that ISNT perpetual motion.

are you acting like a moron on purpose or do you really not understand the concept of a perpetual motion machine?

a perpetual motion machine is SELF sustaining - it is a CLOSED system.

The sun's reactions and subsequent generation of energy are neither limitless nor without cost. Hence any system involving the sun cannot be perpetual.

Kracus' fucking idiocy seems boundless, however. Perhaps you could construct a perpetual stupid machine?

Don't magnets eventually lose their magnetism for that matter?

Where have you get this idea from? Remember this thread of mine
http://www.quake3world.com/forum/viewto ... inventions We still didn't find the proper ingredients to make it all work. Well it works but only like for one cycle -1/2 second. But we are on something. Good luck with yours.

You know this thread got me thinking.

[lvlshot]http://www.tequilasplace.com/temp/leielei.jpg[/lvlshot]

Since the Cat / Buttered Bread Levitation Device (C.B.B.L.D.) is held up by the paradox of cats always landing on their feet, and buttered bread always landing butter side down, we should be able to harness the motion of the device as it fluctuates between its two oscillating paradoxical states, as a form of perpetual energy [ see footnote 1 ].

There are interesting things here that may not be noticed at first glance, especially if you think this thread is stupid and aren't really paying attention.

Clearly, for the C.B.B.L.D. to work at all - which it clearly does (see diagram above) - paradox must exert a force in the world, which as far as I know, has yet to be measured.

You'd think some clever scientist like TNF would have done this by now, it isn't all that hard to make a C.B.B.L.D. (see diagram above once again) and whoever does it first will have a place in the history books as the first person to accurately measure the power of paradox.

Who knows what this could mean. Will it shed light on the whole Holy Trinity 'they are three and they are one' mumbo jumbo? If God is exerting a hand in the world, will we be able to track it by energy signature? What if we don't find one?

Getting back to our C.B.B.L.D., knowing the energy output of paradox will give us our theoretical max output of a cheap, easy to manufacture (breed?) energy device. People could slap these things together in their garages, catching a damn cat is probably the hardest part.

Someday some outdated gas powered fool will brag to me, "I've got 200 horses under the hood." And I'll laugh and say, "That's nothing, I've got eight cats under the hood - literally - and get 13-18 straight years of driving in MTBCF (mean time between cat failure)."

---

[ footnote 1 ] You'd have to feed the cat, as there's no Universal Constant regarding dead cats always landing on their feet, but if the sun doesn't count as an energy source, cat food sure as fuck doesn't.

i think there can be no perpetuum mobiles. if the fabric of the expanding universe underlies the same pattern of life, death and rebirth - the expansion will cause it to fade.

Kracus wrote:Ok, well what about this?

If you hung a magnet by a string, then put another magnet underneath it, wouldn't the magnet on the string move around a bit? There's very little friction...
Smeester post to end this trainwreck;
"Would move around a bit." But indeed there is a little friction (due to air resistance) and so some of the enrgy would indeed get lost as friction, and the entropy would thus increase. In fact, even if there would be *no* air friction at all, the entopy would increase, this time not due to air friction, but in the random motion of the atoms in the magnet, which is energy lost for use.

Obviously, the more atoms there are in your magnets, the more random motion of these you could generate, and hence the more energy would be wasted to a form that you can't retrieve, and hence the motion of the magnets would stop eventually. The only way to circumvene this outcome, is by making the amount of atoms as small as possible, the smallest possible number of atoms in each magnet being one.

Magnets consisting of only one atom, do these exist? Yes: every every atom works as a magnet by default (as a consequence of the fact that there is an electric current in each atom (namely: the moving electrons), and moving currents produce magnetic fields. Hence, put two atoms close to eachother and (somehow) fix their positions, and Krackus' model would work.

FROM THE FUCKING SUN.
Julios, ur first post in this thread was great.

But the stonedness of Kracus finally got to u! :)

One more thing: most of the comments above are just theories - its not like anyone counted up the exact amount of energy in the entire universe and proved it was a fixed number!

I would agree conservation of energy is the most supported and agreed-upon theory, but on the other hand, who the hell knows what the universe is really like a trillion lightyears away??.

I just regard it as the "leading theory"

One of my buddies was telling me about some sort of perpetual motion machine developed at a local university (University of BC). Consisted of 2 metals balls hanging beside each other from a metal frame that, when seperated by the smallest amount, would collide and get further and further apart until they reached the point where gravity would not allow them to continue getting higher. At this point they would bounce in and out forever.

Seems like bullshit to me. Wouldn't the initial energy input (seperating the two balls so they even CAN collide) take it out of the PM category? Hard for me to call BS though, because the friend who told me is a very close buddy who I've known for many years and he wouldn't pull my leg about that sort of shit. He says he saw it. I'm sort of inclined to go down there and see what the fuck he was talking about. I'm thinking he either misheard or misunderstood what it actually was... anyone heard of anything like this?
