Clink clink ... not working right?

I noticed sometimes, especially with shotgun, the clink clink sound doesn't happen if I hit someone or kill them. Is it not as frequent as Quake 3?

Theory One:

Your aim is not as good as it was in Quake 3.

Theory Two:

You, like many, experience some dropped or delayed sounds in Quake 4.

Ah, okay. Yah, often it happens when a person dies from when I shoot them and there is no clink.
